Service Industry Professionals Have Accused Jennifer Lopez And Ben Affleck Of Being Horrible Tippers

When it comes to Jennifer Lopez and her re-boot situationship with her husband Ben Affleck, I never think of them as practical folks. Even though they have millions of dollars and probably call Oprah for gift-giving advice they treat their excess wealth like it’s helplessly trapped inside an iron fortress. For almost twenty years, stories have been circulating about how JLo won’t allow Ben to waste his money on working peasants. These claims have resurfaced recently, exposing Mr. and Mrs. Scrooge as the true reason why service workers can’t have nice things.

According to Jezebel, Jenny From The Block never wants to ride that 6 train again and is making sure Ben understands the assignment. The rule of thumb is Ben, who has been banned from casinos in the past for counting cards, will tip servers very well. But that’s before JLo snatches the money off the table and replaces it with rusted shillings. And this pattern of destructive behavior has been going on since 2003.

Upon some digging through the dustiest of internet archives, I found the rumors about this pattern—of Affleck leaving a sizable tip and Lopez taking it back—date back to 2003. The Mirror in London reported in February 2003 that in Vegas, Lopez was “nicknamed Pay Low among Vegas dealers last November after Affleck left a $5,000 tip and Lopez replaced it with $300.”

Really JLo? $300? You have wayyy more than that saved in your acting class budget, and you need to immediately release those funds because you’re not winning an Oscar anytime soon. And considering you starred in the Hot Mess of Classics Gigli in 2003 you probably weren’t comfortably untying the purse strings just yet. But look at you now! There’s no reason to continue this pattern. And now your wicked ways may be seeping into Ben’s brain as well. Jezebel goes on:

Per a now-deleted TikTok from a former casino employee, “Ben Affleck has one of the worst reputations in the casino industry. We hate him. He’s cheap [and] rude to other players.” As for Lopez, who she called “stingy,” the TikToker claimed “[Lopez] tells [Affleck] not to tip. He doesn’t tip anymore, baby! You don’t need to tell him nothing, he ain’t doing it.”

Here’s another TikTok, accusing JLo of being a tip stealer. TikToker @centamhain shared a since-deleted video from a casino manager, who wanted to remain anonymous, that claimed Ben tipped a waitress $10,000 and JLo took the tip away while saying, “Hell no.” The casino manager alleged that Ben came in the next day and apologized to the waitress with flowers and a $25,000 tip.

Another TikTok user, @redpeppaflake, also defended Ben:

Her description of Affleck is starkly different from that of the previous TikTok: “Ben’s a great tipper, he respects service workers, and so he tipped a lot of people a lot of money that night. Jennifer goes around to each of those people, and takes back the tip, and gives them maybe $5, $10 bucks—maybe.” Prior to sharing the casino story, @redpeppaflake recalled her dad’s stories of working as a driver at a car service company, and why he purposefully avoided driving for Lopez when she came to town: According to her dad, Lopez would have drivers who looked at or spoke to her fired.

BREAKING NEWS: this is how the 1% stays the 1%. But JLo is lucky that she’s a rich and famous celebrity who is surrounded by security guards, because if any of us peasants regularly snatched a tip off of a server’s tray right in front of them, we’d probably be singing Let’s Get Loud as we loudly cry in pain from getting our asses whooped.
