James Cameron Laughs At Matt Damon Losing Out On $250 Million By Not Being A Part Of The First “Avatar”

Back in the day, Matt Damon was supposed to be in the first Avatar movie, but he couldn’t make it work because he had to do the final Bourne film. Because of it, he missed out on a huge payout since Avatar went on to make more than $2 billion and would have earned Matt a payday in the hundreds of millions from percentage earnings. Since the sequel, Avatar: The Way Of Water, is out now, director James Cameron is busy doing all the press about it and also thanking himself for representing women so amazingly. During the press rounds, he was asked about Matt’s joke that he’ll go down in history as the actor who turned down the most money in the world. James’ thoughts? “Get over it!”–which is probably the same thing Matt’s daughter told him when he had to stop saying the F-slur.

Variety says that Matt was originally supposed to star in 2009’s Avatar. As part of his deal, he would’ve made 10% of the movie’s profits, which would’ve been around $250 million back then. According to Matt, “I will go down in history… You will never meet an actor who turned down more money.” James was on with BBC Radio and laughed at Matt’s expense since James obviously has more than 10% of that shit:

“He’s beating himself up over this,” Cameron said. “And I really think you know, “Matt you’re kind of like one of the biggest movie stars in the world, get over it.” But he had to do another Bourne film which was on his runway and there was nothing we could do about that. So he had to regretfully decline.”

When pitched the idea of Damon having a cameo in a future Avatar sequel, Cameron responded, “Must do it. We have to do it so the world is in equilibrium again. But he doesn’t get 10%, fuck that.”

Avatar: The Way Of Water has already made over $441 million worldwide. So that’s another $44 million that poor Matt is missing out on. Luckily for him, James has like four more of these fucking nine-hour movies ready to make. Here’s James telling Matt to get over it.

Hopefully, James does toss a little work Matt’s way. If Matt gets sued over his crypto involvement the way these other celebrities keep getting wrapped up in the scamming, he’ll need some extra cash to pay lawyers and such.
