Open Post: Hosted By The Time “The Great British Bake Off’s” Prue Leith Had To Be Rescued At Sea

One of my greatest fears outside of the mortifying ordeal of being known is being lost at sea. I’ve never seen Jaws, but I’m convinced I’d be a sunburnt meal for some hungry great whites. Hence why I playfully splash on the beach and never venture out into the water past my waist. The Great British Bake Off’s Prue Leith could have used my sage advice when it came to hanging out by the ocean. While holidaying in the Mediterranean Sea, her motorboat gave out, and she was set adrift!

Prue is well-known for judging amazing (and sometimes ugly) baked goods, but if you need her to help you out in a Survivor-type situation, you better find yourself another celebrity. The TV presenter shared her harrowing tale of motor failure and subsequent rescue. And this tale is a lot, lot, lot, lot less traumatizing and horrific than the one she told recently about being forced to drown kittens as a child.  via People:

According to The Great British Baking Show judge, 82, a relaxing day on the Mediterranean Sea quickly turned into “a whole day of absolute misery” after the engine on her motorboat gave out.

“I couldn’t start it and the wind was getting up. I thought, ‘This has the makings of a really bad novel,” she explained to The Daily Mirror.

Leith added that the alarming situation worsened as she tried to flag people down.

“I’d be waving wildly, and they just waved back, thinking I was just being friendly,” she told the outlet. After the long day at sea, a fisherman finally came to the rescue, telling her: “You tourists, you risk your lives. You could have drifted all the way to Corsica!”

Well, it’s a cheap way of getting to Corsica if you’re on a budget!

She added: “And he just gave me absolutely blazes. And there was I… sunburnt,” but says his comments were justified, telling the publication: “But he was quite right, and I was very foolish.”

I hope that after being saved, she baked a showstopper cake for that fisherman. What’s the protocol around gifts for someone who saved your life? A three or four-tier cake? This is another reason why I can’t be stranded out at sea. If someone rescued me, the best I could “make” them is a stale sponge cake from ALDI!
