Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” Is #1 On The Billboard Hot 100 Again, And She Performed A Duet With Her Daughter

Come Christmastime, it’s Mariah Carey’s world, and we’re just livin’ in it. 28 years after its initial release, the Elusive Chanteuse’s 1994 classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You” has once again hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. This is the fourth year in a row. It’s great news for the ***UNOFFICIAL*** Queen of Christmas, who’s halfway through her holiday revue mini-tour, “Merry Christmas To All!” Mariah did two dates in Toronto over the weekend and is heading to Madison Square Garden for two more shows this week. The MSG concert will be filmed and broadcast on CBS next Tuesday. Now, you may be saying, “Big whoop, I’ve seen Mariah do Christmas songs before!” And that may be true, but have you seen her duet with daughter Monroe? No? Then you’re in for a (probably lip-synched) early Christmas gift!

At her shows in Toronto, Mariah and 11-year-old Monroe duetted to “Away in a Manger”. TooFab reports that, before Mariah introduced her daughter to the crowd, she reminded the audience that she doesn’t do birthdays, she only has “anniversaries.” But she says that her anniversary has nothing on her “birthing day,” when twins Monroe and Rock entered this world. She says it was “the greatest day ever and a gift from God” (Earth name: Nick Cannon). Then Mariah welcomed Monroe to the stage, and they performed the hymn (featuring some whistle-tone action). Here’s video of their performance from the December 11 concert:

Monroe is cute and has a very nice voice, but there’s no way any part of that duet is live, right? Like mother, like daughter! Obviously, Mariah ended the show “All I Want for Christmas Is You”. Picture it: Mimi walks back and forth across the stage lip-synching as dancers in elf and tin soldier costumes dance harder than a nutcracker jaw goes down on a nut:

Last year, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” made music history by becoming the first to top the Billboard Hot 100 in three separate runs. Now that knocked Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero” from the chart’s top spot, it’s had an even more record-breaking four #1 runs. If you’re wondering where it placed in 1994, fuhgeddaboudit! The song was originally ineligible on the Billboard Hot 100 cuz it wasn’t released as a single in any physical format. Luckily, this rule was changed in ’98 after a bunch of Christmas elves busted into Billboard offices and dangled a top executive out a window (a la Suge Knight and Vanilla Ice). Billboard was never able to trace who the elves were working for, but the large “Property of the Christmas Queen” tattooed on their foreheads was a pretty big hint.
