Groove Tube!

Groove Tube was a thing from… wait for it… wait for it… the 1980s, and it was basically just a cat toy for kids. I’m assuming that an executive at Milton Bradley, the maker of Groove Tube, saw their cat play endlessly with a ball in a tube and thought, “It’s the 80s; kids will be into that shit.” Because that’s exactly what Groove Tube was. And it brought kids of the ’80s hours of entertainment!

Milton Bradley burped up Groove Tube around 1987. It was a round plastic tube track with handles that you’d whirl a ball around. There really was no point to it, but that fits right in with the ’80s. The commercial for Groove Tube tried to sell it as a toy you and your friends could play with together, but really, it was just a ball on a track! And what’s really sad is that Groove Tube was before its time because had it come out after 1990, its commercial’s theme song could’ve been a reboot of Deee-Lite’s Groove is in the Heart called Groove is in the Tube!

If kids today laugh at the simple crap we played with as children in the 1980s, then they can choke on their judgemental HAHAs. Because they scroll endlessly on TikTok for hours. At least we did some cardio! And if there ever was a ruler of the ’80s, it would be the kid who was able to play with a Groove Tube while jumping on a Pogo Ball with a Skip-It around their ankle. A legend, I’ve never met.
