Fishtopher, the rescue cat who went viral for his “sad and depressed” face!

Seen above looking like he just spotted me coming out of the shower (CORRECTION: He’d have no eyeballs if he spotted me coming out of the shower since they’d explode from the pain of it all), Fishtopher is an adorable mound of fluff who found viral fame after his Petfinder listing said that he’s very sad and depressed. Join the sad and depressed club, Fishtopher! But thankfully, Fishtopher is a lot less sad and depressed today because he’s been adopted and is now living in his forever home! Although, he may still be sad and depressed since his new humans kept the name Fishtopher.

On Thanksgiving, Twitter user Molly Clarke pointed everyone’s attention toward a Petfinder listing for Fishtopher, a stray tabby rescued by Homeward Bound Pet Adoption Center in Blackwood, NJ. The listing said that Fishtopher was depressed in a major way and was so bogged down by the sads that he wouldn’t lift his head for pictures. Here’s the Petfinder post that even had me checking flights to New Jersey.

Fishtopher is not a fish out of water, but he is out of sorts at the shelter. He is very sad and depressed and will only eat when he has company. Five year old Fishtopher was found as a stray, maybe he is missing his family. Fishtopher reminds you of a Bengal with his cool coloring. He is a sweet, easy-going, laid-back boy. Fishtopher loves being pet, and is an affectionate boy. He wouldn’t even look up for pictures, but did enjoy his one on one attention, and getting chin rubs. Fishtopher is a big cheeky boy, wouldn’t you love rubbing up on those big cheeks? He loves cuddling up in arms, it seems to make him feel secure. We feel that Fishtopher would do best in a more quiet home. Please come rescue our big loveable boy!

And here’s Molly Clarke’s tweet featuring Fishtopher looking up with sad eyes while probably thinking, “You all really named me Fishtopher?!”

After Fishtopher (which, if you say really fast, sounds like the Grindr username for a fist fetishist named Christopher) and his sad Petfinder profile went viral, Homeward Bound got hundreds of requests for him. Laura Folts and her partner Tanner Callahan of Baltimore, MD, knew many would want to adopt Fishtopher, so they immediately made the 100-mile drive to Homeward Bound in New Jersey for their chance to bring him home. They were the first ones there and now get the privilege of being Fishtopher’s humans. Homeward Bound made the announcement on Facebook and let those who wanted Fishtopher know that there are many other kittehs who need a home too.

FISHTOPHER HAS LEFT THE BUILDING!

Fishtopher went viral online with his sad, fat face. We literally had hundreds of inquiries from people who wanted to adopt and people were waiting out front this morning in line!
We’re super happy for him, but if you were interested in him, have no fear. We have hundreds of other kitties who are just as wonderful and are wishing that people would come and stand in line for them.
It’s a name your adoption fee weekend, so stop in and pick your kitty today!

And because the internet fell in love with Fishtopher, his humans Laura and Tanner created Twitter and Instagram pages for him, and he doesn’t seem so sad and depressed anymore.

Hopefully, Fishtopher’s humans don’t pull a Grumpy Cat on his ass and drag him to “influencer events,” and things like that, or he’ll really be sad and depressed. And hopefully hopefully, Fishtopher’s humans keep him away from the TV whenever the news plays because we all become Fishtophers when we watch that shit.
