Alyssa Milano Made Whoopi Goldberg Sigh On “The View” By Announcing She’s Sticking With Twitter

We can’t credit Alyssa Milano for the creation of the #MeToo movement but we can acknowledge that she was one of the first celebrities to inspire my usage of the hashtag #TookToTwitter, which, despite my considerable efforts over the years to make that a thing, continues to languish from disuse, forever criminally underused and hanging by a thread much like the fate of Twitter itself since Elon Musk took over (or #TookTwitter, for those keeping track) and fired all the adults. But ever since Alyssa got a little bit of credit for helping #MeToo spread like wildfire on Twitter back in the early days of our current end times, she’s used the platform as a virtual soapbox (yes, her avatar is STILL standing on a literal one, megaphone in hand) for her burgeoning career as a leftist rabble-rouser. And she’s not going down without a fight.

On a recent episode of The View, Alyssa told Whoopi Goldberg they can pry her #OGBlue verified check-mark from her cold, dead hands, bringing about a resurgence of the slightly newer if marginally more esoteric hashtag — #AndWhoopieSiged. Whoopi says Twitter’s a lost cause. Alyssa thinks it can still be used as the #SwordMegaphoneOfJustice. Yahoo! News reports:

Whoopi Goldberg and Alyssa Milano found themselves on different sides of the Twitter argument on Tuesday morning, as the latter actress and activist admitted that, despite her hatred of Elon Musk, she’ll be staying on the platform.

While appearing on “The View,” Milano went into detail on why she has returned her Tesla in protest of Musk — explaining that, with her involvement in the MeToo movement, the accusations of sexual harassment against him were too much to ignore — but continues to stay on Twitter. When asked point blank if she’d be staying on the social platform, Milano responded in the affirmative.

“Yeah, because we can’t cede that territory,” she said. “It’s like a turf war now. That’s how I look at it.”

At that, Whoopi disagreed, interjecting before Milano could continue and arguing that, after Musk’s takeover of the company, it’s reached the point of no return.

Whoopi has deleted her Twitter account altogether and argued that the Twitter we see today is exactly how Elon wants it to be and that it’s “not meant to be any better than what we’re seeing.” Nevertheless, she persisted.

“But if we’re not representing our side of the political discourse, aren’t we just saying, ‘You know what, you can have Twitter?’” she retorted. Behar chimed in agreeing, saying that it’s like “you’re handing it over.”

Whoopi remained steadfast though, reinforcing why she herself chose to leave Twitter a few weeks ago.

“Some things you have to walk away from until you can get the control you need of it. Right now, there’s no way to get this control,” she said. “And so, find the ones that you can get and fix, and then come back and run that over. But do your self a favor. Do yourself a favor.”

Maybe Alyssa thinks she’s still doing something with her little tweets because she’s got Elon’s ear. Little does she know that Elon owns the very turf for which she is fighting. Oh, wait. She must know! This is a very confusing war. Here’s Alyssa’s tweet announcing that she returned her Tesla in the most unusual way, by choice instead of by recall, in exchange for a Volkswagen.

And it’s not just big issues like which car comes with the most morality points. It’s also about copywrite issues?

My bad. I got confused by the wrong issue, and it wasn’t the spelling. I guess this is a better use of her freedom of speech than sparring with Rose McGowan over her friendship with Georgina Chapman, the former Mrs. Harvey Weinstein, or who was the biggest pill on the set of Charmed and trying to get #SexStrike to trend. Here’s her exchange with Whoopi on The View via This You? AKA 2.0.

Now, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but at this point in Twitter’s history, her time would be better spent if she took it offline and #TookToTheBallot instead, like she threatened to do last year by floating the idea, on Twitter of course, of running for congress in her local district. But that would mean the **checks notes** Hodgetwins (?!?) win.
