Rebel Wilson Got Shit For Not Including Plus Sizes In Her New Clothing Line

November 29, 2022 / Posted by:

Apparently, new momma Rebel Wilson has launched a clothing line with her partner, designer Ramona Agruma. It’s a loungewear fashion brand called R&R Club. OK, sure. Except, uh oh! This non-story got the “non” kicked outta it because of a sizing controversy. R&R Club’s first collection (so far it’s just a white hoodie and matching sweat pants) is only available in sizes XS to XL. Page Six reports that some of Rebel’s fans and fat activists on social media are pissed that R&R Club doesn’t include plus sizes. Especially since 42-year-old Rebel was plus size up until 2020, when she lost around 80 pounds for her “Year of Health.” Sorry, Rebel, but that’s just rude! No, not the sizing thing, the “losing a bunch of weight during the pandemic, unlike the rest of us, who ballooned to epic proportions” thing.

The R&R Club site doesn’t have a size chart with precise measurements, so their definition of XL is fuzzy. It’s usually around sizes 12-14. In 2016, a study by the International Journal of Fashion Design, Technology and Education reported that the average size of an American woman was between 16 and 18. So, like most fashion brands, R&R Club just ain’t cutting it size-wise. It’s especially weird because Rebel used to have a plus size fashion line (pre-weight loss, of course).

Fat positive TikTok user Destiny Ann posted a video calling Rebel out. In the caption she writes, “the irony of rebel dropping a clothing line that wouldn’t have even been able to shop at a few years ago.” In the actual TikTok, she adds, via Page Six:

“I don’t understand how someone who is plus size for the majority of her career and the majority of her life — someone who knows hard it is to be fat, to shop for clothing and actually find it in your size — I don’t understand how someone with that background, that knowledge, can release a brand that only goes up to an XL”

Here’s some more negative online reactions to Rebel’s line:

By the way, nobody’s talking about how Rebel’s line is also excluding the poors. The hoodie is $179 and the sweatpants are $149! That’s a whole lotta dough for a white sweatsuit I’m immediately going to ruin with a bowl of couch-spaghetti!
