You know, there are British people and there are BRITISH people, if you know what I mean. And then you have your BRITISH, BRITISH people, like Prince William and Princess Kate, who bleed Thames water and breathe the same rarefied Balmoral air as, well, as Ghislaine Maxwell. But try as they might, William and Kate have a lot of catching up to do if they want to court American audiences (fans? Watchers? What do they want from us?!?!) with the same success abroad as William’s brother Prince Harry and his American Wife Meghan Markle. But bless their little crumpet hearts; they’re trying!
According to People, William and Kate are about to embark on what Royal staffers are calling “their Super Bowl Moment” during a 3-day trip to Boston for a charity event called the Earthshot Prize Awards. **Hank William’s Jr. voice*** ARE YOU READY FOR SOME “urgent optimism about tackling environmental issues?!” People reports:
Kate Middleton and Prince William are all set for what staffers are calling their “Super Bowl moment.”
The Prince and Princess of Wales will arrive in Boston on Wednesday, and some details of their visit have been unveiled by their office. Their three days in the U.S. will end with the celebration of new ideas to solve the planet’s issues, the second annual Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony.
Kate and Prince William, who last came to the U.S. in 2014 for a visit to New York City, are “both extremely excited for the visit,” a source close to the couple tells PEOPLE. “They feel and appreciate the warmth and excitement of the American people for their return to the U.S. and are really looking forward to meeting as many folks as possible.”
Yes, lawd, they think a CHARITY event, for THE ENVIRONMENT, is going to get Americans just as jazzed about “impactful projects doing amazing things” as they are about eating their weight’s worth in queso dip while high-fiving over the newest gas-guzzling GMC commercial. It’s like, bros! Do you even lift? Cut to William cracking his knuckles and saying, “Bruv! ‘Course I do. Many stones, my brother. Many stones” while Kate politely whispers in his ear, “luv, I think they’re having us on. Just smile and wave. Smile and wave” as she quietly ushers him back into the 15-ton GMC Sierra HD they rented just for the occasion.
Prince William refers to the Earthshot Prize Awards — which will air on PBS on Sunday, December 4 — as his attempt to provide some urgent optimism about tackling environmental issues and climate change. He and Princess Kate are “excited to be able to bring that to the United States and inspire people stateside and around the world through the incredible stories we are going to tell,” the source says.
While the Earthshot Prize on Friday evening is the ultimate reason for their visit, the couple also sees it as an opportunity to “fact-find” about some of the causes and interests close to their hearts. “Some of the things we are focused on right now is supporting some of the most hard-pressed communities up and down the U.K. and we will continue to do that in Boston,” adds the source.
See, this is how you know William and Kate aren’t currently on speaking terms with Harry and Meghan. Otherwise, Meghan would have told them that Americans have zero interest in hearing “incredible stories,” which must be the reason her podcast is so very dull. But as William and Kate will undoubtedly soon find out— We Americans like our football full-contact, our wings spicy, and our Royalty elected by popular vote, i.e. click-through rate.
