Open Post: Hosted By Matty Healy Of The 1975’s Mid-Concert Auto-Tuned Orders To Security To Assist An Endangered Fan

The British synthy pop rock band The 1975’s frontman, Matty Healy, is known to be a bit ~quirky.~ Whether he’s sniffing Shawn Mendes’ chonies, sneakily smoking the good shit, or devouring raw meat on stage, his antics have somewhat become the band’s signature. But this time, Matty did something that’s much less deserving of a light eye-roll or the “hmmph” sound a mom makes when you try to explain him to her: while singing one of the band’s auto-tuned songs during one of the band’s recent tour stops, Matty spotted a fan in the crowd who seemed to be in danger so he commanded venue security to do their jobs and help–while he was still in auto-tune. The video has since gone viral on TikTok.

HuffPo reports that Matty saw a fan hit the deck during their Phoenix show last week, so he pulled the polar opposite of that do-nothing Travis Scott and told security to get their heads out of their asses and assist, with the gusto that would make a 2007 T-Pain’s heart flutter.

Footage of the incident, which reportedly took place at the band’s Nov. 23 performance in Phoenix, shows Healy alerting staff at the Arizona Financial Theatre that an audience member had fallen during his band’s performance of the song “I Like America & America Likes Me.”

“Someone’s fallen down over there,” he proclaims in the clip, which was previously shared by Entertainment Weekly and People, among other outlets. “Go and fucking sort ’em out. Stop standing there like a bunch of dickheads.”

The reprimand was so seamless with the song’s melody that someone getting paid $11.75 to be concert security might not notice it while zoned out, wishing to be anywhere else besides having to be crammed among the sweaty masses, but fans were delighted with Matty’s very Matty way of handling a potentially scary situation.

Those who weren’t listening carefully, however, may have assumed Healy’s expletive-laden plea was a part of the show, as he addressed the situation in robotic-sounding auto-tune and didn’t break from the song’s melody.

“The fact that he’s simultaneously being both obnoxious and considerate is so him,” one person wrote, while another added: “I truly cannot believe I was there to witness this.”

Here’s the moment, which has been viewed on TikTok over 900,000 times now:

Kudos to Matty for caring about his fans’ safety and for doing it with some pizzazz. It may be too late for Kris Jenner to attempt to turn Travis’ stained legacy around with some auto-tuned panache, but as we speak, she’s buying up all of the software for Kim Kardashian to use next time she wants to spice up a languid statement about her favorite designer’s pedophilic tendencies or give the advice to women in business to “get their fucking fake asses removed up and work.
