Metta World Peace, who?!

You know the guy who played Dwight in The Office? Well, forget his name forever. Great! Now, remember it again briefly, but just for this story: Rainn Wilson has changed his name to Rainnfall Heat Wave Extreme Winter Wilson to protest climate change ahead of this week’s COP27 climate summit in Egypt. Variety reports that Rainn(fall?) made the switch on social media as a “cheap little stunt to help save Planet Earth.” It’s unclear if he plans to legally change his name. But if so, that’ll be $450 if you’re filing in California, Mr. Heat Wave Extreme Winter Wilson.

Rainn actually gave us a couple of different versions of his new name when he made the announcement on social media: Rainnfall Heat Wave Rising Sea Levels Wilson and Acid Rainn Kills Trees Wilson. Apparently, he went hog-wild on the ArcticRisk Platform’s name generator. But Rainn says, it’s not a joke. “I’m as serious as the melting Arctic, which amplifies global risks including extreme weather events around the globe”:

Rainn challenged others to change their names as well, so world leaders at the UN’s COP27 take notice and take action. He came up with these names for his fellow celebrity types:  Cardi Arctic B Melting, Jack Black Carbon Is Killing Us, Ty-phoons Are Increasing Burrell, Amy Poehler Bears Are Endangered, Samuel Earth’s Gettin’ Hot As L. Jackson, Leonardo DiPolarIceCaprio Melting and Harrison Why Not Drive An Electric Ford?

I put my name into the ArcticRisk name generator, and all I got was my name with the phrase “Uncontrollable Wildfires” randomly inserted into the middle. Rainn is lucky he’s named “Rainn”; it’s way better suited for clever weather puns. Ariel Winter, Bruce Springsteen, Vanilla Ice, Brittany Snow, Stormy Daniels, and Gayle King, it’s your time to (sun)shine!
