The Staff At Sherri Shepherd’s Talk Show Were Reportedly Mad At Marlo Thomas’ “Fat Shaming” Comments

Sherri Shepherd is currently enjoying her reign as the new Queen of Daytime Talk. Ok, she isn’t necessarily the “Queen.” Or even close. But whatever, after Debmar Mercury yanked former Queen of talk Wendy Williams from the show and tossed Sherri into the hot seat with a new coat of paint on the walls, she’s doing whatever she can to keep the lights on. And recently, she interviewed the legendary Marlo Thomas, who admitted she and Sherri go way back. Marlo remembers a time before Sherri’s weight loss journey began, but instead of simply reminding her, Marlo did an impersonation that was more suited as a tribute to Eddie Murphy in The Nutty Professor. And Sherri’s staff apparently didn’t take too kindly to Marlo’s gentle reminder.

According to Page Six, Marlo was on SHERRI to promote several upcoming projects, including a Christmas movie titled Magical Christmas Village. And although it started as a wonderful reunion, things took a turn for the shame-y when Marlo decided to remind everyone Sherri may be svelte now, but there was a time when she had extra meat on her bones.

“I interviewed you for my AOL show [‘Monday’s with Marlo’],” she recalled, adding “and you used to be a big woman!”

Thomas then dug deeper by putting her hand around her body and blowing her face out in an attempt to imitate Shepherd’s old size.

“You’ve lost a lot of weight, but you’ve still got the boobies! That’s good,” she said.

Comedian Shepherd, who revealed she “lost like 35 pounds,” hopped off the seat and embraced her with laughter, but we’re told staffers didn’t find it funny at all.

Here’s that clip:

Marlo’s impression of Big Sherri pissed off her staff because they won’t stand for anyone disrespecting their Duchess of Daytime (working title).  But the main reason her crew was ready to slather their faces in Vaseline and advance with flailing windmills to protect Sherri’s honor is that she implements a policy of positivity on her set. And Marlo’s words were in direct violation of Sherri’s harmonious environment.

“Sherri was a good sport, but people [at the show] are very protective of her,” our insider shared.

They added, “People were not happy that she fat shamed her on national TV. It was a like a slap in the face.”

And we’re told they were “very vocal” about it.

Sherri’s supporters on Twitter were very vocal as well. They sounded off in a verbal beatdown against Marlo, bringing her unrecognizable feral features into the mix as a way to remind her she should always play nice with a face like hers.

I guess Marlo won’t be back on the show anytime soon because now the crew will be greeting her with side eyes and clenched fists just in case she talks slick once again. And meanwhile, Wendy is at home cackling with laughter thinking to herself, “That would have NEVER happened if I was still the host,” and she’s right. Marlo probably would have said something far worse.
