After Five Years, Rihanna Makes Her Return To Music With A New Song On The “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” Soundtrack

Many people have been eagerly anticipating Rihanna‘s sexy cat meow to drip all over a new track like butter on pancakes, and luckily for us, breakfast is served! Rihanna’s second act as a billionaire beauty boss takes up the majority of her time now. And let’s not forget she also created a human with man child A$AP Rocky, which must keep her, her nannies, and her lawyers busy at all times. But she’s finally breaking out her yodeling vocals to honor late Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman with a song titled Lift Me Up for the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack.

Just for a bit of context, prior to becoming the reigning Lady of Lingerie and Face Beat with her successful Fenty line of products, we haven’t heard anything from her since she teased visuals of being naked, naked, naked on 2017’s Wild Thoughts, but she’s back to music. She will headline next year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show and will probably do a world tour. Billboard reports instead of providing us with a track we can all drop it to while cooking Thanksgiving dinner, she is instead filling our souls with something beautiful in tribute to Chadwick. Everyone has been anticipating the release of Wakanda Forever since the first Black Panther‘s ending credits, and Rihanna has taken the torch into her hand while running all over the new track for the upcoming sequel.

The arrival of the song was announced earlier this week, preceded by a series of cryptic billboards around New York and a teaser post on social media, which included the forthcoming movie title appearing onscreen before highlighting the first “R” in “Forever.”

“Lift Me Up” was written as a tribute to the late Panther star Chadwick Boseman, who died from colon cancer in 2020 at 43. Tems, Oscar winner Ludwig Göransson, Rihanna and Black Panther director Ryan Coogler all have writing credits on the track.

Tems took to Instagram to honor RihRih’s involvement with the song because she, too, understands how much money it’s going to flood into her bank account.

I don’t think Rihanna was intentionally neglecting her singing career because she already politely cautioned us to never stop the music. It’s in her blood. But I also think she knew that she would only open her mouth to sing once again when the time (and check) were right because there ain’t no check like a Marvel check. And her fans are thanking her:

Prepare yourselves for the moment when Rihanna takes the stage in a risqué Wakanda-inspired frock while accepting her Academy Award for this song, but hopefully, she doesn’t become like Oscars-era Lady Gaga by trying to be all reserved and classy during awards season. Because not only is the song a beautiful tribute it also sounds like it can be remixed into something we can all twerk to by the beginning of Summer 2023.
