Harry Styles’ Performance In “My Policeman” Will Be Submitted For Oscar Consideration

Harry Styles stars in the new film My Policeman, and even though the movie is getting mixed reviews and Harry was dragged for his acting in the trailer, he’s going for Oscar! Variety reports that the entire cast, including Harry, will be submitted in the Best Supporting acting categories at the Oscars. So, you may soon hear the words “And the Oscar goes to…. Harry Styles!” (no you won’t).

Directed by Michael Grandage, My Policeman opens in theaters on October 21 and will be released on Prime Video on November 4. It stars Harry, Emmy-nominee Emma Corrin, and David Dawson. It’s about a bisexual love triangle involving Harry’s character (who’s the policeman in My Policeman), his wife (played by Emma), and a museum curator (played by David). The movie also stars Linus Roache, Gina McKee, and Rupert Everett as the older versions of Harry, Emma, and David’s characters. A new trailer came out this month.

Variety says that the movie’s performances will be submitted for Oscar consideration in the supporting categories:

Variety has learned exclusively that Amazon will be submitting the entire cast, which includes music superstar Harry Styles and Emmy nominee Emma Corrin, all in the supporting categories for Oscar consideration.

Variety adds that this is not an act of “category fraud,” where performances are submitted in the wrong category, so they have an easier path to OSCAR! One example of category fraud is Jake Gyllenhaal’s co-lead performance in Brokeback Mountain being submitted in the Best Supporting Actor category. But Variety says that’s not happening here with My Policeman:

Singers-turned-actors have had an inconsistent road to the Academy Awards. …As Tom, a closeted gay police officer, Styles conveys the internalizing conflict effectively, and if he decides to campaign and make a play for his first Oscar nomination, it will have to begin with Amazon choosing to submit him for supporting actor attention — which is not category fraud.

And as for Harry’s chances at getting a nom, well, the internet has thoughts:

Harry and the rest of the cast of My Policeman collectively won the Toronto International Film Festival Tribute Award for Performance, so he doesn’t need that Oscar! Besides, he’s a shoo-in for a much more prestigious award, and I’m talking about the Teen Choice Drama Movie Actor trophy! Eat that, Oscar.
