Lizzo Won An Emmy For Her Show “Watch Out For The Big Grrrls”

Someone check on Jillian Michaels! The ever-concerned-about-fat-people trainer must be absolutely seething over Lizzo‘s Emmy win last night for Outstanding Competition Series for her Amazon Prime show, Watch Out for the Big Grrrls, a reality compeition series where 13 women compete to be dancers for her. Jillian’s television, foyer, and windows are all probably broken from a rage blackout where she tore through her home like a bull.
Ahead of Emmys night, Lizzo spoke with Entertainment Weekly‘s Awardist podcast, and said that working on the show she was able to “fulfill a dream” of hers “long in the making.” She got equally emotional last night when she picked up the award and called all her big girls to the stage:
“I need my big girls to come to the stage right now. Right now,” Lizzo commanded while claiming her award. “I’m very emotional and the trophy is nice but my emotion is for these people who are on this stage with me. The stories that they shared they’re not that unique they just don’t get the platform telling stories. Let’s just tell more stories… When I was a little girl all I wanted to see was me in the media, someone fat like me, Black like me, beautiful like me. I could go back and tell little Lizzo something, I’d be like, “You gonna see that person but bitch it’s gonna have to be you” …This is for the big girls!”
Here’s Lizzo’s speech and her 250-foot train of tulle:

Lizzo’s win was also an upset for RuPaul’s Drag Race which has won the category for the past four years. Lizzo’s show also beat out The Amazing Race, Nailed It!, Top Chef, and The Voice. But RuPaul did not come away empty-handed from this year’s Emmys. During the Creative Arts Emmys, Ru won the Emmy for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program. It’s his 12th Emmy and that makes him the most Emmy-winning Black artist of all time.
The good news for Jillian Michaels is that she has company in the SEETHING OVER LIZZO’S WIN department since Lizzo has had a TV show for all but a minute and has already won an Emmy while her critic Aries Spears has been on TV since the 90s and hasn’t won shit.
