Lea Michele Caught COVID-19 And Is Out Of Broadway’s “Funny Girl” For 10 Days

After what seemed like eons, it finally happened. Lea Michele got her Satan-granted wish and made her debut in Funny Girl this week. Not only did she get to show the world her Fanny Brice, but she got multiple standing ovations for it! It just goes to show that if you dedicate yourself to being an awful person, the universe will reward you for it! However, it appears as though Lea’s voodoo spell on Beanie Feldstein has run amok and the curse has extended to the general production of Funny Girl because Lea has come down with COVID-19, thereby putting a stop to her Fanny for 10 days. The lighting crew better watch out. Who knows who’s next!

The Funny Girl revival has had its share of hiccups. It initially received less than stellar reviews upon its opening with lead Beanie getting some flak for her performance. (You could say that the first setback was that Lea Michele wasn’t initially cast in the production but that would be according to Lea.) Soon after, Beanie came down with her own case of the COVID and had to take a break. After returning, she shockingly announced that she would be ending her run in Funny Girl only having played the role for five months. Jane Lynch who played Mrs. Brice also stated that she was quitting the bitch. Beanie ended up leaving slightly earlier than anticipated and the role of Fanny was taken up by understudy Julie Benko who by many accounts did an excellent job. The next blow came when Lea Michele was announced as the new Fanny. The Glee alum finally hit the stage but after only a few days is now taking a temporary bow after showing signs of COVID. Lea notified the public via an Instagram story.

And the official Funny Girl Instagram account quickly followed with their own statement, saying that Lea will be back to terrorize audiences on September 20th.

Somebody must’ve said Macbeth backstage because this show is as cursed as Kim Kardashian’s new eyebrows. Once Lea returns to the stage, will she have to coordinate another series of standing ovations? Jonathan Groff is gonna go bankrupt if he has to keep booking out the whole theater with seat fillers who can clap wildly on command!
