Chris Rock Turned Down An Offer To Host The 2023 Oscars

Many moons ago, there was a moment during the Oscars where Will Smith introduced the inside of his hand to Chris Rock‘s face for the first (and hopefully) last time. And even though we can finally hear the fading remnants of that slap disappear into the background there are still people who are interested in its aftermath. Including The Academy. Will has attempted an apology multiple times while Chris has primarily remained silent, as he should because there might be another slap awaiting him in case he starts snitching!! And with this knowledge in mind, Chris rejected an offer to host the Oscars in the future, even though it would be the perfect opportunity to exact his revenge.

Chris has been vocal about his reluctance to speak on the entire situation before, but he realizes people want to hear more about it. I’m sure he remains tight-lipped because, just like the line from The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air‘s theme song, he got into one little fight and his mom got scared. And honestly, nobody really believes any of Will’s apologies, so it leaves Chris still wondering why Will hates him so much. But According to AZ Central, during a set at Phoenix’s Arizona Financial Theatre, the subject of the slap heard ’round the world came up once again. According to Chris, Oscar producers wanted to capitalize on the situation by offering him a chance to host the Oscars once again. And in a sign of not becoming the pariah who brings in ratings, Chris gladly turned them down because he’s probably just as sick of talking about it as we all are.

Chris Rock…said during his Sunday night show in Phoenix that he was asked to host next year’s award ceremony, an invitation he said he refused.

Rock compared returning to the Oscars like returning to the scene of a crime, referencing the murder trial of O.J. Simpson, whose ex-wife’s killing began with her leaving a pair of eyeglasses at an Italian restaurant.

Rock said returning to the award ceremony would be like asking Nicole Brown Simpson “to go back to the restaurant.”

As Rock mentioned how a person could get famous for being a victim, someone in the crowd shouted, “Talk about it.”

Rock said that the hit from Smith hurt, referencing how Smith had played the boxer Muhammad Ali in a movie.

“He’s bigger than me,” Rock said. “The state of Nevada would not sanction a fight between me and Will Smith.”

Chris said he also turned down a Super Bowl commercial offer that landed in his slap after the Oscars Slap.

Well if I was Chris, I would have taken the gig and worn boxing gloves all night asking “Has anybody seen Will?” And it would have thrown the crowd into nervous laughter since everyone knows Will won’t be back in attendance for a very long time.
