Taylor Swift picked up several Moonman trophies for her music video All Too Well (10 Minute Version) at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards, which meant that security guards were probably waiting in the wings for Kanye West to interrupt her like old times. That didn’t happen, but during her speech, Taylor announced that her new album will be released on October 21st and also let her fans know that more details about it will come out at midnight. And then at midnight, Taylor announced her new album, called Midnights, was coming. Wow, how deep. See, it’s called Midnights and she announced it at midnight? Did you get it? Yeah, her work can go over people’s heads sometimes.

All Too Well (10 Minutes Of Roasting Jake Gyllenhaal) which is directed by Taylor herself, was nominated for Video of the Year, Best Longform Video, Best Cinematography, Best Direction, and Best Editing. Taylor won Best Longform Video and Video of the Year. So she got up there and picked up that $11.99 silver-coating statuette while dressed up like Roxie Hart’s understudy in an off-off Broadview production of Chicago and grabbed all the attention for her album which will undoubtedly sell 9 million copies in the first eleven seconds of its release, via Uproxx:

Swift said, “I had sort of made up my mind that it might be a fun moment to tell you… my brand new album comes out October 21st. And I will tell you more at midnight.”

Variety says that Taylor explained that Midnights is made up of 13 tracks and that all of its songs were written at night.

“We lie awake in love and in fear, in turmoil and in tears… We stare at walls and drink until they speak back. We twist in our self-made cages and pray that we aren’t – right this minute – about to make some fateful life-altering mistake. This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams. The floors we pace and the demons we face. For all of us who have tossed and turned and decided to keep the lanterns lit and go searching – hoping that justmaybe, when the clock strikes twelve … we’ll meet ourselves… Midnights, the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life, will be out October 21. Meet me at midnight.”

And since this is Taylor we’re talking about and loves those “Easter Eggs,” she also highlighted past songs of hers with the word “Night” in them on Spotify:

Taylor must have realized how much heat she was getting for being the ExxonMobil of celebrities thanks to her private jet carbon emissions, and so to take attention away from that, she’s releasing her late-night drunken yodelings on Kim Kardashian’s birthday. Well, played.
