Florence Pugh Is Only Going To Do One Press Appearance For “Don’t Worry Darling”

The middling drama that surrounds Don’t Worry Darling continues. Olivia Wilde’s upcoming tour de force has been plagued with bad press. Not so much because of Harry Styles’s questionable acting talent but because of all the behind-the-scenes action. So far we have on-set banging, rumors of an unhappy Florence Pugh, and some back and forth regarding whether or not baby Catholic Shia LeBeouf was fired (looks like he quit because “Miss Flo” couldn’t commit). Someone needs to do a documentary on the making of Don’t Worry Darling. It’ll likely be more riveting than a The Stepford Wives knock-off. It seems as though Florence is well and truly bothered enough by the on-set shenanigans because she’ll only be doing one press appearance for the film.

One could say she’s not been doing heavy promotion because she’s been busy filming two other high-profile films: Dune: Part Two and Oppenheimer. However, she’s not the lead in either one of those. She IS for this DWD trainwreck, so when a principal actor limits their promotion of a film, you know something’s up. In July, it was reported that Florence was unimpressed with Harry and Olivia’s affair which began during filming and while Olivia was still with her ex, Jason Sudeikis. The actress never confirmed if there was a falling out between her and her director, but her silence (as they say) speaks volumes. She’s only posted about the film on social media twice in two years. TheWrap spoke to a few people close to Florence to find out why she’s not posting Don’t Worry Darling marketing materials all over her Instagram.

TheWrap spoke to three executives connected to the film, as well as an individual with knowledge of Pugh’s involvement, who all declined to confirm any further press plans for the actress beyond attending the Venice Film Festival for the film’s premiere and red carpet, flying in from the set of Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two.”

Pugh has been in Budapest filming “Dune: Part Two” and filming Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” prior to that. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, she will be in Venice for the premiere direct from a night shoot in Budapest, and returning to filming afterwards.

But the Venice Film Festival red carpet and press conference are expected to be the extent of Pugh’s traditional press duties on the film. “She’ll be doing greetings for us from the set of ‘Dune’ because she’s not doing press,” a studio executive said.

According to the exec, the studio knew that Pugh’s availability for the press tour on “Don’t Worry Darling” would be limited, considering “Dune 2” is also a Warner Bros. project, and planned for such.

So essentially Florence is doing that thing where you show face for an hour at the mandatory office Christmas party and then quickly exit to go to a party with people you actually like. Some speculated that Olivia brought up the story of firing Shia LeBeouf for the sake of Florence as a way to prove that there was no ill will between them. But we saw how that turned out. For the time being, Flo is just gonna show up in Venice, and peace out. The movie execs are doing some stellar ass-covering for her lack of promo. It could be that there IS bad blood between Olivia and Florence. Or maybe the execs saw that Harry clip, panicked, and told Florence to abort all mentions about the film in the hopes that no one apart from Harry stans would bother seeing it.

It seems that the lead-up to this film has been all about the “feuding females,” but I want to hear from Harry about his experience! What was it like to sneak away for some nookie and leave Florence alone to finish the scene? He probably did us all a favor. Based on the clip, Florence was better off acting opposite a wall!
