Billy, the hero cat who saved his human from a heart attack!

Some might think that if a human had a heart attack in front of their cat, their cat would calmly pull out a nail file and slowly work on their nail game while watching their human’s demise. Or they would gracefully kick their human’s phone away from reach. But Billy here must be possessed by the spirit of Lassie because when one of his humans was having a medical emergency in her sleep, he pounded on her chest, which woke her up and she was able to get to the hospital before it was too late. And it was all thanks to Billy! So obviously Billy doesn’t take orders from Paper Lace who once demanded, “Billy, don’t be a hero!”

The BBC (via People) says that Billy lives with Sam Felstead and Sam’s mother Karen in Nottinghamshire county in England. On the night of August 7, Sam went to bed feeling fine, but she woke up in the early morning hours the next day to find Billy jumping on her chest and meowing his face off. Now, if your cat was jumping on your chest and meowing at you as you slept, you might think, “Oh shit, did I feed him 1 minute late yesterday and now he’s getting REVENGE on me?!” But Billy was doing the opposite. Billy sensed that something bad was happening to Sam and went into action. When Sam woke up, she was covered in sweat and couldn’t move the right side of her body. She was taken to the hospital, just in time.

With Billy’s efforts, Felstead woke up, realized she could not move on her right side and asked her mother Karen to help her get to a hospital.

“Mum was quite shocked. I told her [Billy] woke me up and she was even more shocked. You don’t hear about that with cats,” Felstead told the India Times.

“The doctors said it was a good job I got to hospital in time,” she added to BBC.

Sam underwent an angioplasty and was released a few days later. But when she got home, her pussy savior Billy was not waiting at the door to greet her with a mega warm hug that screamed, “I’m so happy you’re okay!” Instead, Billy ghosted her ass for a few hours and was unfazed by the fact that he’s a hero!

“When I came out of hospital he wouldn’t go near me for a good few hours, whether I smelt funny from coming out of the hospital I don’t know,” she told BBC.

“I don’t think he has one bit of a clue what’s happened,” she added. “As long as I feed him, he’s not bothered.”

As for hating tricks (read: dogs) rolling their eyes at Billy being called a hero, cat behaviorist Lucy Hoile tells the BBC that Billy probably saved Sam’s life, but not on purpose:

“It could be that the fact he jumped on her and was meowing was a sign of his anxiety,” she said to the outlet, adding that the cat probably noticed some physiological changes in his owner.

“I do believe he probably did save her life,” the expert stated, “because that’s what enabled her to get medical help.” She continued, “I wouldn’t go down the route of saying he did it on purpose. It was him reacting to the situation.”

Here’s Sam telling the tale of Hero Billy:

In that video, Sam says that Billy doesn’t really like her much and he’s more of her mom’s cat. So why did Billy become an extra adorable Life Alert for Sam then? My guess is that while jumping on Sam’s chest, Billy was thinking, “One less human in this house means one less human who will give me treats and attention and who I can annoy the shit out of. Quick! Get up! Get help! This is a real emergency!”
