Demi Lovato Will Neither Confirm Nor Deny That Her New Song “29” Is About Wilmer Valderrama

In anticipation of her upcoming album HOLY FVCK former alien superstar, Demi Lovato has released a few singles from the album prior to its release on August 19. The title of the album’s latest single is 29 and it initially made me think that was the guaranteed number of times Demi’s customers will reach the mighty “O!” while using the Demi Wand. So imagine my shock when I discovered that the song is titled after her current age. I honestly thought Demi was way older than that because they’ve lived a hell of a life. And I’m sure one of their biggest regrets is their on/off relationship with Wilmer Valderrama, who many believe the song 29 is actually about.

According to NME, 29 is a guttural track where Demi finally realizes the man she was dating when she was younger, who was twelve years her senior, is a creep. Demi started dating Wilmer when she was 18 and they dated on and off from 2010 to 2015. Now that Demi’s reached the age Wilmer was when they first started dating, it’s left her ready to take a million showers to scrub off the stink from that relationship. And the fact that Wilmer was 29 when the two of them started their ill-fated romance is purely coincidental, right? So is the fact that Wilmer’s current girlfriend Amanda Pachecho is also twelve years younger than him, right? Please say I’m right.

Just five years a bleeder / Student and a teacher / Far from innocent / What the fuck’s consent? / Numbers told you not to / But that didn’t stop you,” Lovato sings on the new song, the third single from her forthcoming album ‘Holy Fvck’.

Finally 29 / Funny, just like you were at the time / Thought it was a teenage dream, just a fantasy / But was it yours or was it mine? / 17 / 29,” the singer continues on the song.

Demi also admitted it was hard for her to release this song but also said it was necessary to finally speak on it.

Discussing the new single while speaking to Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe, Lovato said that recently turning 29 – the age Valderrama was when the pair started dating – was a “huge eye opener” that had “put things into perspective” for the singer.

“I would be lying if I said I didn’t have a ton of anxiety about putting out this song. I just said, ‘I have to go for this. I have to own my truth,’” Lovato added. “I’ve learned that sometimes saying less is more. And it’s taken me to 30 years old to maybe learn that, but here I am approaching the way that I express myself differently in front of the media because it’s okay to have boundaries.”

Wilmer also dated Lindsay Lohan (now 36) when Lindsay was 17 (but they didn’t go public until LiLo was 18) and Mandy Moore (now 38) when Mandy was 16 or 17. So the only thing Demi’s song is missing is background vocals from LiLo and Mandy yodeling, “WE CO-SIGN!”
