Anne Heche is still in a bad way after making a maxi hole with her Mini Cooper by driving it 2 Fast 2 Furious into the side of a house in Mar Vista last Friday. Mercifully, the home’s resident and her pets made it out of the house unscathed and the GoFundMe set up to help her recover financially has exceeded its $100,000 goal. Prior to completely demolishing the home, Anne had crashed into the parking garage at a nearby apartment complex and fled the scene, narrowly avoided striking a pedestrian before crashing into a Jaguar, and was seen driving down a residential street at an alarming speed, all of which was caught on camera. We still have no idea what Anne’s mental state was that day, but according to The Los Angeles Times, she had a “very, very random” encounter at a Venice hair salon about 30 minutes prior to hitting her first speed bump. Thankfully nobody was hurt, in fact, the shop’s owner says Anne acted like “a sweet little girl,” was “very pleasant” and “wasn’t speaking in cursive,” but the bright red wig she bought is thought to have perished in the fire. It can be seen in the photo of Anne that was taken just prior to her vehicular melee, sitting in the passenger’s seat right next to what appears to be a bottle of alcohol.
The LAPD is still investigating and obtained a warrant to check Anne’s blood for alcohol and drugs, the results of which could take several weeks. So while she may not have been slurring her words during her visit to Glass Hair Design, I’m not sure how reliable a witness shop owner Richard Glass is because as a professional, he of all people should know that bright red wigs are for hussies, not sweet little girls. LAT reports:
Right before Anne Heche crashed her car into a Mar Vista home a little before 11 a.m. Friday, she was acting like “a sweet little girl” as she bought a bright red wig at Glass Hair Design in Venice, salon owner Richard Glass said Monday.
The Daytime Emmy winner was “very pleasant,” Glass said, when she popped into his Main Street salon through the back door wearing a strappy top, comfy pants and fluffy, plush house shoes.
Heche immediately eyed some wigs arranged on a shelf over his shampoo area — in colors ranging from natural shades to shocking pink and solid white — and asked about a blue one. When Glass said that that one was spoken for, Heche said she would buy a bright red wig instead.
The salon owner said he told Heche that the red wig hadn’t been cut or styled or even washed yet, but that the 53-year-old didn’t care. By the time he went to ring her up, he had recognized who she was and they proceeded to take a number of selfies together. He posted one showing the two of them — and the wig — on his Instagram account.
I think it’s safe to say based on the photo he posted that having cut, styled and washed hair was pretty low on her list of priorities that morning.
Here’s the photo of Anne just before the crash. You can see the red wig poking out under what appears to be a straw sunhat.
A disguise perhaps? Or just Friday funsies? I’ve certainly brought one of my girls along just in case an opportunity for wigcapades should arise. Hopefully, Anne makes a full recovery and can shed some light on this horrible situation. As of Monday, Anne was still in a coma and has a “significant pulmonary injury requiring mechanical ventilation and burns that require surgical intervention.” As for any legal ramifications, she’s being investigated for “misdemeanor DUI and hit and run.” A legal expert for People speculates that the fact that nobody else was injured, makes “any potential charges against the actress less serious if wrongdoing is found.” Anne is currently being treated at the Grossman Burn Center and her prognosis remains uncertain.
