Beyoncé Has Removed Kelis’ “Milkshake” From Her Song “Energy” And Now Monica Lewinsky Wants To Be Removed From “Partition”
The drama with Beyoncé’s new album, Renaissance started with early leaks. Next, Kelis screamed “I HATE YOU SO MUCH RIGHT NOW!!!” for using her voice on a track without permission. Then, Beyoncé removed an ableist slur from another track. And THEN OG songwriter Diane Warren felt a million bee stings from the ‘Hive (led by The-Dream) when she questioned their queen’s creative process. And now, after removing Kelis’ Milkshake from the track Energy, Monica Lewinsky is wondering if Beyonce’ can work her magic once again to remove her name from 2013’s Partition.
Pitchfork reports that Beyoncé must have been feeling generous after seeing Kelis’ online “Kiss My Ass!” tour following her former collaborators The Neptunes allowing their 2001 hit song Milkshake to be used on the track Energy. But unfortunately, the energy hasn’t been good between Kelis or The Neptunes for many years since she has no rights to the song. So rather than give Kelis a check to shut her up Beyoncé removed the sample, and The Neptunes’ writing credit, from the track entirely.
On the original version of “Energy,” near the song’s end, Beyoncé sang a variation of the “La-la, la-la, la” that Kelis made famous on “Milkshake”…In the updated version of “Energy” on streaming platforms, Beyoncé’s series of “las” is absent. Pitchfork has reached out to Beyoncé’s representative for comment and more information.
