50-Year-Old Dane Cook Is Engaged To His 23-Year-Old Girlfriend Of 5 Years

It’s time for everybody’s favorite subject: math! If Dane Cook is 50, and he just proposed to his girlfriend of 5 years, 23-year-old Kelsi Taylor, has this relationship always been legal? Hmmm… multiply by 6, divide by 6, subtract 5, carry the 1… OK, the answer is technically YES, but it’s still categorically icky. Nevertheless, snide congratulations are in order.

People reports that Dane popped the question to his singer/fitness instructor girlfriend, Kelsi, on July 13:

“I was so ready to ask her. I was completely zen about it,” Cook, 50, tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue. “The evening of the proposal was incredibly beautiful, the weather was perfect, sunset was spectacular, and I was just quite simply very happy.”

>He adds of the moment, “I was asking my best friend, the woman who I’ve shared some of the greatest times of my life with, to marry me so we can start the next chapter our of lives together. I was also thinking of how absolutely stunning she looked.”

Kelsi says that she couldn’t believe it was happening. Finally, 5 long years of hard work had paid off! She’d locked down a man with over (wait a sec… Googling “Dane Cook net worth”…) $35 million?! Damn, that’s a lot more than I expected. Good job, Kelsi!:

“The second he began to reach for his back pocket, my stomach flipped. I couldn’t have asked for the moment to have been more perfect. All that was going through my brain was, ‘Wait, is this actually happening right now? Is he proposing?'”

“I was also just really focused on what he was saying to me because I was trying desperately to etch the words into my brain,” she continues. “They were so beautiful, I really wanted to soak it in.” Cook says it was the “best feeling ever,” and, afterward, “We sat together on the deck, shared laughs, held hands and watched that giant moon sparkle across the ocean.”

Dane’s right; the moon was big that night. It was a “Buck Moon”, aka a “Capricorn Super Moon”, aka a “Thunder Moon.” Dane proposed at York Beach in Maine, which was where the couple went on their first trip together 5 years ago. He tells People that he and Kelsi have already made “a ton of plans,” which includes having kids:

“We just want to continue to inspire each other, to build a family together, stay mindful and encouraging always, and to keep laughing through it all,” he says.

“I’m about to spend the rest of my life with my favorite person and my best friend — what is there to not look forward to?” adds Taylor. “Family has always been such an important part of my life and the idea of expanding it and starting our own family together with the man of my dreams just fills my heart.”

And Dane posted a slideshow/videos of their lurrrv:

When I finished reading the People article, I thought, “Damn, maybe these two really do love each other! That Buck Moon thing is romantic, and this is Dane’s first marriage. Was my opening paragraph too mean?” Then I read that Kelsi was born in October 1998. 1998. When Employee of the Month came out in 2006, Kelsi was 7! Since the movie was PG-13, she probably couldn’t even see it in theaters. Not that she’d want to. It was Employee of the Month. Starring Dane Cook, Dax Shepard, Jessica Simpson, and Andy Dick. ‘Nuff said.
