Open Post: Hosted By Houdini The Blind Kitten And His Seeing Eye Kitten Phoenix

Happy Caturday! Here’s a story that will melt even the coldest of hearts (e.g., mine). After acquiring an infection, a poor kitty named Houdini was left blind (yeah this hasn’t started off very positively…). In order to help him live a normal kitty life, the volunteers at the Humane Society of Mason County introduced him to Phoenix, an orange tabby who has become his seeing eye kitty! The two are now best friends. If that doesn’t bring a tear to your eye, I don’t know what else will!

Houdini was found in dire straits by the local Humane Society. He was discovered hung up on a fence and, once set free, his rescuers realized that his vision was quite poor due to an infection. Unfortunately, this required surgery and although his life was saved, he was left blind and in need of some assistance. Enter Phoenix! To help Houdini around, Phoenix was paired with him to be both his buddy and seeing eye kitty. A functional friend! The two bonded and have become inseparable. Via Kitsap Sun:

“They are kind of a unique duo,” Katherine Johnson, Humane Society of Mason County president, said Thursday. “Definitely a conversation starter.”

Houdini and Phoenix, about 3 months old, have bonded, and Johnson said they should be kept together and go to a home that wants them both.

The Humane Society is on the hunt for a permanent home for these two kittens as well as 70 other cats. They plan on moving into a larger space to accommodate the needs of these animals and currently rely on foster homes and people willing to adopt a new furry friend. Some cats can be easier to handle, while others like Houdini and Phoenix, require a little more care. As a relative of a cat with somewhat special needs, I can vouch for getting a different kind of pet! After my parents brought in a kitty with a weird tongue, they can’t live without her now. They take pictures of her, dote on her all day, and treat her better than me! I may be their child, but you just can’t compete with an adorable cat. Here’s to hoping that Houdini and seeing eye kitty Phoenix find a good home full of love and cat nip!
