Beyoncé Calls Out Her “Renaissance” Album Leakers While Kelis Calls Her Out For Song Sampling Without Permission

Today is Hallelujah Honey Day! Better known to the Beyhive as the day their God Beyoncé finally released her highly anticipated seventh album Renaissance. When Beyoncé first announced her new album, the Beyhive whipped into a frenzy, especially after unleashing her latest hit single Break My Soul. But then the album leaked early and the Beyhive jumped into formation to tell people not to download it. Well, Beyoncé has words for those who leaked her album. But little did she know that she would also have to face some shock and awe from Kelis. Kelis is pissed that her 2003 hit song Milkshake was sampled for one of Renaissance’s tracks without her knowledge or permission.

Whenever Beyoncé releases an album, time stops and the Beyhive drops to their knees to twerk in praise of new music they’ll be singing and shaking to for the next few years. But while the rest of the world patiently awaited Renaissance‘s July 29th debut an online stream of the album leaked just days before the release. Variety reports that Beyoncé thanked the Beyhive for defending their lord and savior:

Beyonce dropped her seventh solo album, “Renaissance,” on Thursday night as scheduled, calling out those who leaked the album two days early, and thanked her fans for being patient.

“So, the album leaked, and you all actually waited until the proper release time so you all can enjoy it together,” she wrote. “I’ve never seen anything like it. I can’t thank y’all enough for your love and protection.

“I appreciate you for calling out anyone that was trying to sneak into the club early,” she continued. “It means the world to me.”

Beyoncé  also revealed that Renaissance is the first part of a three-part project, so she’s about to take everyone’s rent and gas money during the remainder of the year. And the Beyhive is more than willing to throw her every last dime for whatever’s on the horizon because they are already dangerously in love with Renaissance.

Billboard reports one of Renaissance‘s tracks, The Neptunes-produced Energy samples Kelis’ Milkshake and it seems like Kelis may be ready to bring a bunch of lawyers to Beyoncé’s yard. Kelis doesn’t have any writing credits on Milkshake but she’s devastated that she was not included in the conversation about using her song. Kelis also called out The Neptunes, made of Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, who are the credited writers on Milkshake.

Kelis commented: “My mind is blown too because the level of disrespect and utter ignorance of all 3 parties involved is astounding .”

“I heard about this the same way everyone else did,” she continued. “Nothing is ever as it seems , some of the people in this business have no soul or integrity and they have everyone fooled.”

When another Instagram user commented that they “always felt like Beyoncé really admire Kelis,” the “Bossy” star added, “Admire is not the word.”

Another fan chimed in, “Thats a collab the world really needs,” with Kelis responding, “It’s not a collab it’s theft.”

Kelis later said that she’s not only pissed at Beyoncé but also Pharrell who she’s called out before for fucking with her money.

“I’m an artist, so I am as Erykah [Badu] said ‘I’m sensitive about my shit,’” Kelis said. “The reality is that my real beef, is not only with Beyoncé, because at the end of the day, she sampled a record, she’s copied me before, so have many other artists, it’s fine, I don’t care about that.” (The album’s full credits list the “Milkshake” sourcing as an interpolation, not a sample.)

Though she called it “stupid and disrespectful” for Beyoncé to have allegedly not reached out about the interpolation, Kelis specifically called out Grammy-winning producer/rapper and Neptunes co-founder Pharrell, who she said “knows better. This is a direct hit at me,” she claimed. “He does this stuff all the time. It’s very petty.” At press time spokespeople for Williams and Beyoncé had not returned requests for comment on Kelis’ claims. “I have the right to be frustrated because no one had the human decency to call,” to ask for permission, she claimed.

Beyoncé has yet to respond to Kelis’ statement, but why would she? The only statement Beyoncé’ cares about right now is the one coming from her bank. And I’m sure that one is screaming louder than Kelis or any member of the Beyhive ever could.
