“Teen Mom OG’s” Amber Portwood Lost Custody Of Her 4-Year-Old Son

When it comes to MTV’s Teen Mom franchise, it’s pretty much a given that when any of the moms–who haven’t been teens for a long-ass time–and many can barely be considered “moms”–make the news, it’s not because they’ve done something to show that they’ve matured a ton since being actual teens. Amber Portwood, mom of two and star of Teen Mom OG, has a long, storied history with charges, jail, and custody battles. Another judge has decided that Amber’s children are better off with their respective fathers (her 13-year-old daughter, Leah, lives with her dad, Gary Shirley), since this time, Andrew Glennon, father of her 4-year-old son, James, has been granted sole primary physical and legal custody of him.

According to People, Andrew still has to consult Amber about things like “the child’s medical treatment, education and religion,” but James will be moving from her home state of Indiana to Malibu, CA with his dad, Andrew.

An Indiana judge has ruled that son James Andrew will move to California with his dad after a difficult and ongoing custody battle between the Teen Mom star, 32, and her ex, Andrew Glennon, a rep for Portwood confirms to PEOPLE.

“Amber’s shocked by the judge’s ruling,” a source tells PEOPLE. “She loves her son more than anything and has always tried to be the best mother to him. She’s not perfect, but this was a really dramatic thing to happen.”

Both Amber and Andrew spoke to E! News about the judge’s decision.

Amber shared in a statement that she has “worked so hard to better myself and improve my relationships with my children. While I’ve always been candid about my past substance abuse and struggles with mental illness, a person should have the chance to redeem themselves and not be tethered to their problems from the past,” she told E! News, later adding, “If your road has not been perfect, but you’ve worked hard to become a better, more stable and caring person today, keep moving forward as I will. I’ll never stop fighting for my children who I love more than anything.”

Andrew seemed relieved that the 3-year battle was finally over.

“We endured the nightmare…now we get to live the dream.”

I mean, anyone familiar with Amber’s tendency to slap the shit out of the fathers of her children in the presence of said children probably doesn’t consider this a “really dramatic thing to happen,” but sure, Jan. There’s also audio of her allegedly hacking at a door with a machete while he held their son behind it. She ended up getting two and a half years of probation and having to take parenting classes, which seemed like a pretty light sentence. She’s off probation now and this new custody arrangement will allow her to have some overnights with James, so maybe she should just take this L and realize that her record with custody of her children is 0/2. At any rate, Jennelle Evans, Farrah Abraham, (and any dogs and security guards in their paths) are breathing easier knowing that they’re off the shitty news hook for one day.
