Open Post: Hosted By Keke Palmer Not Knowing Who Scully And Mulder Are Either

Keke Palmer famously did not recognize former Vice President Dick Cheney in a Vanity Fair lie-detector test that immediately became a meme and gave birth to the phrase“Sorry to this man” was born! But Keke actually doesn’t know lots of other people either. In a new VF segment promoting her Jordan Peele movie, Nope, which seems to be about aliens, Keke is clueless about the alien-investigation duo from the 90s, The X Files‘ Scully, and Mulder. “Sorry to this man,” it’s time to meet your new baby sibling: “And who the Hell are they?”

Nope comes out on Friday and stars Keke, Daniel Kaluuya, Steven Yeun, Brandon Perea, and a bunch of other people. In the Vanity Fair video, the four of them read fan theories about what Nope is really about and many theories believe the movie is about an alien invasion. One fan theory brought up everyone’s favorite alien investigators from the 90s and Keke pulled a “sorry to this man and woman,” via Vulture:

“I bet we see Scully and Mulder,” Palmer read aloud. After briefly pausing and glancing at her co-workers, she asked, “And who the hell are they?”

Even after she was reminded that they were the lead characters of the sci-fi series The X-Files, she didn’t seem to recognize them. Sorry to these agents! (And perhaps an honorary sorry to Stanley Tucci, whose last name Palmer pronounced incorrectly when she saw it in the fan who came up with the theory’s username.)

Although other fans made Palmer laugh with predictions that her character was a skin-changer, a UFC fighter, and even part of a time travel plot, it was this Scully and Mulder suggestion that seemed the most far-fetched to her. Even after she was informed that The X-Files involved aliens, she seemed confused. “I love those guys, I guess,” she said unconvincingly, “but why would we see them?”

Here’s the video:

I feel like at this point if Keke Palmer knows who you are it’s a high honor. Because clearly she only keeps a limited about of space for remembering people. There should be a new game show that she herself hosts: “Does Keke Palmer Know Who This Is?!” And it’s just her looking at celebrities’ pictures and going: “And who the Hell are they?”
