The Mommy Shamers Came For Jessica Simpson For Letting Her 3-Year-Old Use A Pacifier
The mommy shamers are out in full force, and, for once, they aren’t coming for CoCo. Nope, Yahoo! News says that today, their pitchforks are sharpened for target Jessica Simpson, who committed the heinous crime of letting her 3-year-old daughter Birdie suck on a pacifier and then proceeded to post pictures of it on Instagram. Disgusting. Please tell me someone in the comments tagged Child Services.
The hullabaloo began when 42-year-old Jessica posted a series of photos from her family vacation in Lake Austin, Texas, where she and her husband Eric Johnson went boating with their three kids: Birdie, Ace, 9, and Maxwell, 10. As you can see, Birdie was sucking on a soother:
The mommy shamers didn’t take long to pounce on Jessica’s parenting skills in the comments, via Yahoo!:
“Passy needs to be gone. It messes up their teeth so bad,” another user wrote. “My friend is finding that out, his kid has major dental issues.”
“That is just lazy parenting,” said a third critic. “Isn’t Birdie like 4? And she still has a pacifier? Not good.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, “it is unlikely that a pacifier will cause permanent damage while a child still has their baby teeth.” Which makes sense, cuz I was blessed with good teeth and I sucked on a pacifier ’til kindergarten. What can I say? I’ve got an oral fixation. See: my bitten-to-the-bone fingernails. Ow. OW. But not all the moms in the comments came for Jessica. Some defended her:
“So many snarky comments. You and your family seem so sweet and amazing,” said one defender. “Please don’t let these comments get to you. Love seeing you live your beautiful life with your family.”
“Your kids are so cute,” another person wrote. “So many judgy comments about Birdie’s paci, I know the struggle. My youngest was so hard to break from hers & then she switched to her thumb”.
Back in 2015, Posh and David Beckham faced similar criticism after The Daily Mail published an entire fucking article about how daughter Harper, then 4, still used a “dummy” (British for pacifier). The headline warned she “may end up with speech or dental issues.” Becks jumped onto Instagram and said that nobody had the right to criticize his parenting. He was pissed.
Jessica has yet to respond to any of the comments. I think we should all just leave Jessica alone because she’s already been slut-shamed, and, yes, mom-shamed, way back in 2019 when she let her then-7-year-old daughter dye her hair. The poor girl was also driven cock-mad by John Mayer in her twenties. So why don’t we just let Jessica and her family enjoy their little boat ride, shall we? And if Birdie’s teeth get janky, they can take it up with Jessica’s lawyers.
