James Cameron Doesn’t Want To Hear People “Whining” About How Long The “Avatar” Sequel Is

James Cameron‘s Avatar sequels are coming out soon, with the first of the four planned movies, Avatar: The Way Of Water, coming out on December 16. It stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, Edie Falco, Cliff Curtis, and probably a ton more people. I mean, the movie will have to be filled with something because apparently, it’s going to be so fucking long that you WILL piss yourself unless you stand up and go to the bathroom. And it’s all about water so that won’t help!

Avatar is the highest-grossing film of all time, with Avengers: End Game coming in second and Titanic third. The first Avatar came out back in 2009. I guess James is hoping that people are still obsessed with an Avatar sequel thirteen years later because there are going to be four more movies and James tells Empire that the fourth and fifth sequels may be directed by someone else.

Speaking to Empire in the upcoming world-exclusive Avatar: The Way Of Water issue, the legendary filmmaker opened up about his plans for the later movies in the series – including the possibility that he may appoint someone else to bring the saga to its conclusion. “The Avatar films themselves are kind of all-consuming,” Cameron admits. “I’ve got some other things I’m developing as well that are exciting. I think eventually over time – I don’t know if that’s after three or after four – I’ll want to pass the baton to a director that I trust to take over, so I can go do some other stuff that I’m also interested in. Or maybe not. I don’t know.”

…Still, Avatar is Cameron’s own world – and he sounds particularly enthused about where the story goes in the later movies. “Everything I need to say about family, about sustainability, about climate, about the natural world, the themes that are important to me in real life and in my cinematic life, I can say on this canvas,” he explains. “I got more excited as I went along. Movie four is a corker. It’s a motherfucker. I actually hope I get to make it. But it depends on market forces. Three is in the can so it’s coming out regardless. I really hope that we get to make four and five because it’s one big story, ultimately.”

The running time for the first Avatar movie clocked in at 2 hours and 40 minutes. And Avatar: The Way of Water will also be long as hell. And James Cameron doesn’t want to hear it. via Yahoo!:

But director James Cameron is getting ahead of the backlash for the upcoming sequel, subtitled The Way of Water, which will reportedly have a three-hour runtime, by encouraging fans to “get up and go pee.”

“I don’t want anybody whining about length when they sit and binge-watch [television] for eight hours,” he told Empire in a recent interview, seemingly overlooking that audiences cannot, in fact, pause movies in theaters. “I can almost write this part of the review,” he continued. “”The agonisingly long three-hour movie…” It’s like, give me a fucking break. I’ve watched my kids sit and do five one-hour episodes in a row. Here’s the big social paradigm shift that has to happen: It’s OK to get up and go pee.”

And don’t bother trying to drag James for the story of the first movie being a generic re-work of Pocahontas or roast him for any bad writing, because James is not hearing any of that either and expects you’ll all “shut the fuck up” once you rewatch Avatar or see the new film:

“The trolls will have it that nobody gives a shit and they can’t remember the characters’ names or one damn thing that happened in the movie,” he said. “Then they see the movie again and go, “Oh, OK, excuse me, let me just shut the fuck up right now.” So I’m not worried about that.”

So “dictator” James Cameron wants everyone to shut the fuck up about the running times and storylines of the Avatar movies. But if you watch an Avatar movie and you don’t cry about the storyline and how long it is, did you even watch an Avatar movie at all?!
