Amy Schumer Says She Fired Her Doula For Being Too Beautiful

A whole bunch of employment lawyers might have heard that and started prepping for the wrongful dismissal suit of a lifetime. Meanwhile, any famous person whose marriage ever bit the dust over a nanny and a snake of a husband just nodded like, “Okay, tell me more.” But it’s not exactly like that, at least according to Amy Schumer herself. She didn’t just fire her doula simply because she was too busy hotting-it-up around Amy’s house to find the time to take care of Amy’s baby. No, it all comes down to self-esteem, which Amy says she didn’t have enough of to handle a pretty post-partum assistant.

Amy Schumer gave birth to her and her husband Chris Fischer’s first and so far only child, Gene David Fischer (formerly known as Gene Attell Fischer) in May 2019. And like many rich, famous moms, Amy wanted to drop some cash on a little pre-and-post-birth help around the house. So Amy hired a doula, which is kind of like a person who provides emotional support during pregnancy and physical support after the baby shows up.

Amy decided to hire doula to the stars (or at least to New York City-residing celebrities) Domino Kirke-Badgley, daughter of Bad Company drummer Simon Kirke, sister of actresses Jemima and Lola Kirke, and wife of Penn Badgley. Amy appeared on a recent episode of Penn Badgley’s Podcrushed podcast, where she explained how Domino was eventually given walking papers in the wake of Baby Gene’s birth. Essentially, Domino was too good at her job, which was only made worse by how beautiful Amy thought she was while Amy was at her self-declared grossest. via Entertainment Tonight:

The comedian decided she needed to let the helpful doula go while recovering from her C-section.

“The truth was, and this is pretty unfair to her, but Domino is like a goddess,” Schumer shared. “She’s an actual floating siren around the house… [she’s] just lovely and when she touches you, you just kind of melt. And she was really a family member. I just felt so vulnerable. I was like, ‘I can’t have this Botticelli fucking goddess floating around my home when I am like, bleeding out.”

Getting fired sucks, but there is a silver lining here: Domino no longer had to awkwardly pretend she was getting an important incoming call every time Amy asked if Domino wouldn’t mind listening to a couple new jokes she’d written.

Amy adds that she didn’t have the “strength” to keep Domino around the house, and told her that she better pack her things and leave. Amy doesn’t say if she replaced her doula with another trained post-partum provider, but if she did, my guess is that Amy only interviewed one candidate: Nanny McPhee.
