Gloria Estefan Turned Down A Cameo In Jennifer Lopez And Shakira’s Super Bowl Halftime Show
Most people who are lucky enough to perform during the Super Bowl Halftime Show look back at it with fond memories. Jennifer Lopez, however, is not like most people. Even though she put on a killer set with Shakira, JLo initially thought that co-headlining the Halftime Show was the “worst idea in the world.” Apparently, she didn’t think there was enough time for each performer. And well, JLo may have gotten even less stage time if Miami icon Gloria Estefan took the offer to make an appearance. But Gloria said no and wonders what JLo would’ve said if she had to share the stage with not one, but TWO more performers.
According to HuffPo, Gloria recently sat down with Mr. Giggles himself Andy Cohen during an episode of Watch What Happens Live and the subject of J.Lo’s documentary Halftime came up, which Gloria admitted she hadn’t seen yet. Next Andy asked Gloria what her thoughts were about JLo’s comments regarding her Halftime performance and she definitely did not let the words get in the way of her response.
“Look, this is the bottom line. You have very little time, like 12 minutes or something, to get things on and off the set,” Estefan explained. “So, could you do it with one person? Yes, but I think they wanted to throw a Miami and Latin extravaganza, and they tried to pack it as much as possible.”
I can only imagine the look of sheer joy on everyone’s faces if Gloria came out on stage with her thousand-piece band and put both JLo and Shakira to shame!!!! Luckily for them, Gloria rejected that offer because she’s already done a couple of Super Bowls. You hear that J. Lo? A couple. And never once did she complain so take some notes on gratitude from the OG. Gloria did however give them both praise and joked about what JLo’s response would have been had she agreed to perform as well.
“OK, and imagine what J.Lo would have said if I was the third [performer]!” Estefan said, bugging out her eyes.
“I literally would come out, done ‘come on shake your body,’ out!” Estefan joked, referring to the lyrics of her 1985 Miami Sound Machine hit, “Conga!”
She may have been joking but I’m sure Gloria knew there wasn’t enough room on that set for herself, Shakira, JLo, AND JLo’s ego. I don’t think the stage could have handled all of that pressure.
