JLo Used They/Them Pronouns To Introduce Her Child Emme At A Recent Performance

Last Thursday Jennifer Lopez performed at the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation Blue Diamond Gala at Dodgers Stadium, and she surprised the crowd with a performance with her “favorite duet partner of all time.” Nope, she didn’t sing with Ben Affleck (thank God, cuz he absolutely butchered Leaving On A Jet Plane), she shared the stage with her child, Emme. And the main reason this mother-and-child duet is making headlines is that 52-year-old JLo used gender-neutral “they/them” pronouns to introduce 14-year-old Emme.

JLo last performed with Emme, whose twin is Max, at the 2020 Super Bowl. They sang “Let’s Get Loud”. This time, the pair duetted on Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years” (a song that was written for Twilight), a verse of “Born in the USA,” and “Let’s Get Loud” once again. Here’s how JLo introduced Emme, via The Daily Mail:

‘The last time we performed together was in a big stadium like this and I ask them to sing with me all the time, and they won’t. So this is a very special occasion. They are very, very busy. Booked. And pricey,’ she joked.

‘They cost me when they come out. But they’re worth every single penny because they’re my favorite duet partner of all time. So if you will indulge me,’ the Marry Me actress said while calling her partner to the stage.

Here’s video of their performance (please note Emme’s rainbow microphone):

And pics that JLo posted to social media:

This is the first time Jen has publicly used “they/them” to refer to Emme. So far, there’s been no “coming out” or public declaration; just a straightforward switch to gender-neutral pronouns. The video made its way to TikTok, and many commenters applauded JLo for supporting Emme, via Yahoo:

“They” is how Emme identifies. This was Jlo [sic] sharing that information. it’s beautiful to see her supporting her child,” one wrote.

“I’m so glad we live in a time where parents are supporting then [sic] children,” another added.

“As a mother who is fighting to make sure her child is seen, this is absolutely beautiful,” another fan commented.

“Awww JLo respecting the pronouns,” another user added.

Well, I guess now when it comes to a child’s gender identity, parents can either say that they’re a JLo or an Elon Musk!
