Social media can take us anywhere. There are some great travel accounts that show us the ins and outs of countries around the world that we wouldn’t normally get to see. Instagram posts of the Taj Mahal? Check. TikToks about Buckingham Palace? Check. Yet the one video that’s managed to capture everyone’s attention is one that features a beautiful, surprising, and enigmatic structure: a McDonald’s in Maine. Yes, I know. We as a people are doomed. In our defense, it’s no ordinary McDonald’s. It looks like a house!

The Takeout points us to this popular TikTok video shows viewers what they can expect when knocking on this particular historic home. Namely a Big Mac and any size soda for $1. What a bargain!

In the video, user @evileasterbunny explains that Freeport, Maine doesn’t allow “big box stores” in the town, so big businesses like McDonald’s use old houses to sell their wares. Hm, with property prices still sky high, it might be cheaper to start up a McDonald’s franchise in Maine and hole up in a 7-bed mansion! There’s also a follow-up piece where @evileasterbunny gives us a tour inside the golden arches.

The interior has all the classic features that you want in a Mcdonald’s: quick service, ample seating, sticky floors, and an antique fireplace! A soda fountain in the sitting room to wow and delight guests? This is giving me some great home renovation ideas! The only thing missing in this house is the haunting apple pie tree from the 70s and 80s. That’ll really bring the glamour to this historical home!
