The Teaser Trailer For “Blonde” Starring Ana de Armas As Marilyn Monroe Is Here
I feel like we’ve been hearing about Blonde, the NC-17 rated Marilyn Monroe biopic starring Ana de Armas, for years, decades, millennia! Rumor has it director Andrew Dominik began production before Marilyn even died. Well, today, all our patience has finally paid off; Netflix released the teaser trailer for the flick. It features an eerie version of “Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend,” slow motion, and black-and-white and color (watch out, Schindler’s List). Translation: this is art, baby!
There’s been lots of talk about whether or not Cuban-born Ana could pull off Marilyn’s American baby voice. In an interview last year, Ana said it took her nine months of dialect coaching and ADR sessions, and “it was a big torture, so exhausting.” I can’t tell if Ana was successful based on this teaser because the editors pulled a “Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana” and only let her say five words: “Please come. Don’t abandon me.” Here’s the trailer:
Netflix also released some promotional images of Ana as Marilyn:

Ana definitely looks like Marilyn. I mean, she’s got the mole and everything, what more do you want? But, um, we’ll see how this goes when the movie hits Netflix on September 23. It’s based on a 2000 novel by Joyce Carol Oates, and, while she described a rough cut as “startling, brilliant, very disturbing” and “an utterly “feminist” interpretation,” last summer World of Reel reported that Netflix was “absolutely horrified.” The sexually graphic film reportedly includes a rape scene and a talking aborted fetus.
In a February interview with ScreenDaily, director Andrew Dominik says rumors of a “bloody menstrual cunnilingus” scene are untrue and “hilarious.” He adds that he has “nothing but gratitude for Netflix,” and that the streamer supported the movie despite having issues with the content. He does note, however, that getting Ana to master the American accent was “work,” and that Netflix insisted on bringing in Hereditary and Tenet editor Jennifer Lame “to curb the excesses of the movie.” Um, they hired the editor of fucking Hereditary to soften that shit up? Oh dear. Andrew adds:
“It’s a demanding movie,” he said. “If the audience doesn’t like it, that’s the fucking audience’s problem. It’s not running for public office.
”It’s an NC-17 movie about Marilyn Monroe, it’s kind of what you want, right?” he continued. “I want to go and see the NC-17 version of the Marilyn Monroe story.”
But maybe the movie should run for public office. Blonde for Prez, 2024! Republicans will love the talking aborted fetus!
