Lady Gaga Is In “Early Talks” To Play Harley Quinn In “Joker 2,” Which Is Going To Be A Musical
Seen above making the same “Say the fuck what?” face I made when reading that Joaquin Phoenix will mumble yodel as the Joker, Lady Gaga is probably going to play a singing Harley Quinn in the Joker sequel that will apparently be a musical. So prepare your nerves for Joker 2: Incelectric Singaloo. So since the first Joker movie was director Todd Phillips’ comic book-ized Taxi Driver, then I’m guessing Joker 2 will be his comic book-ized New York, New York. That means we could see Lady Gaga as Liza Minnelli as Harley Quinn. That’s what Gaga really meant when she said, “I got you” to Liza at the Oscars. That shady trick!
Last week, Todd Phillips announced on Instagram that the second Joker movie will be called Joker: Folie à deux. Folie à deux is a “shared psychosis or shared delusional disorder (SDD), is a psychiatric syndrome in which symptoms of a delusional belief, and sometimes hallucinations, are transmitted from one individual to another.” So yeah, Joker and Harley Quinn will yodel out Bad Romance (The Angsty Clown Remix) in this one:
The Hollywood Reporter says that Gaga is in “early talks” to play Harley Quinn, and Joaquin hasn’t officially signed on yet but he’s in “advanced talks.” And of course, Gaga’s Harley Quinn exists in a different world than Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn.
Details on her character are being kept under wraps, but Joker is known for his on-off abusive relationship with Harley Quinn, his psychiatrist at the mental institution known as Arkham Asylum who falls in love with him and becomes his sidekick and partner in crime. It is unclear whether Phillips and company are using other DC characters or striking on their own, as they did in many instances with their first movie.
If a deal makes, Gaga would play Quinn. However, this new Quinn exists in a different DC universe than the Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, which most recently appeared in 2021’s The Suicide Squad as well as several other films.
Gaga hasn’t responded to this yet, because I’m sure she’s busy preparing for the role by making plans to check into an asylum where she’ll share a cell with a helium balloon from old-timey New York so she can really get that Harley Quinn voice down. And this movie won’t be out for a while, but still, I’m sure every publicist in Hollywood is stocking up on Valium just in case they have to work this press tour which is most likely going to be a mess. “There could be 100 clowns in the room – wait, there are only 100 clowns in the room? We need more” is what Gaga will say before launching into Send In The Clowns, as the movie’s PR team rolls their eyes like, “Here she goes again.”
