Amber Heard Doesn’t Blame The Jury In The Johnny Depp Defamation Trial

June 13, 2022 / Posted by:

Amber Heard has given her first interview since a jury of 5 men and 2 women mostly ruled against her in the pile of flaming tonsil stones that was The Johnny Depp defamation trial. Amber talked to Savannah Guthrie for NBC News and the choice to go with Savannah has been hit with some side-eyes because while interviewing Johnny Depp’s lawyers on Today last week, Savannah admitted that her husband Michael Feldman, who is a PR and communications adviser, worked as a consultant for Team Depp during the trial. During Amber’s interview with Savannah, which airs tomorrow, Wednesday, and Friday on NBC, Amber says that she isn’t faulting the jury for not believing her because she knows that it’s probably hard to see sweet ole’ Edward Scissorhands as an abusive monster.

After six looooooooooooooong weeks of a Virginia courtroom turning into a shit show circus, the jury sided with Johnny Depp, and although he’s not getting the $50 million he wanted from Amber, the jury did decide that she must pay him $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages (although, Virginia’s got a cap of $350,000 for punitive damages). Amber did come out of that mess with one win, though. The jury declared that Johnny defamed her through comments made by his former lawyer and she was awarded $2 million. But the jury mostly believed what Johnny’s lawyers served up, and Amber told Savannah that she isn’t mad at them for that because he’s a great beloved actor, and their heads were  overfilled with shit about how you should treat everything that comes out of her mouth as though she said, “Mortdecai was an underrated cinematic masterpiece deserving of all the Oscars.” Basically, Amber said that the jury heard testimony after testimony about how every word that leaps off her tongue is a certified lie.

Savannah: There’s no polite way to say it. The jury looked at the evidence you presented, they listened to your testimony and they did not believe you. They thought you were lying.

Amber: How could, I’ll put it this way. How could they make a judgment? How could they not come to that conclusion? They sat in those seats, and heard over three weeks, of non-stop, relentless testimony from paid employees and toward the end of the trial, randos, as I say.

Savannah: So you don’t blame the jury?

Amber: I don’t blame them. I actually understand. He’s a beloved character and people feel like they know him. He’s a fantastic actor.

Savannah: Their job is to not be dazzled by that. Their job is to look at the facts and the evidence and they did not believe your testimony or your evidence.

Amber: Again, how could they after listening to three and a half weeks of testimony about how I was a non-credible person. Not to believe a word that came out of my mouth.

Amber also got into how she lost in The Court of Social Media from the getgo. The #JusticeForJohnnyDepp hashtag reportedly got billions upon billions of views on TikTok while the #IStandWithAmberHeard hashtag got less than 10 million views. And in Amber’s countersuit against Johnny, she accused him of masterminding an online smear campaign against her using bots. Amber said that nobody can tell her that things weren’t lopsided against her on social media.

“I don’t care what one thinks about me or what judgments you want to make about what happened in the privacy of my own home, in my marriage, behind closed doors. I don’t presume the average person should know those things. And so I don’t take it personally. But even somebody who is sure I’m deserving of all this hate and vitriol, even if you think that I’m lying, you still couldn’t look me in the eye and tell me that you think on social media there’s been a fair representation. You cannot tell me that you think that this has been fair.”

Here are clips from the interview:

Amber plans to appeal and her lawyer also said that she can’t afford to pay the multi-million dollar judgment.

As I mentioned above, the full interview will air throughout the week, so we’ll probably hear a lot more. We’ll also probably hear a lot more from Amber when she takes the stand after Johnny Depp sues her for this interview too.
