Here’s The Teaser Trailer For Amazon’s “A League Of Their Own” Series

While there’s no crying in the teaser trailer for Amazon’s upcoming A League of Their Own series, there is some flirting which apparently is allowed in baseball. According to TVLine, the show “takes a deeper look at race and sexuality,” than the 1992 Penny Marshall-directed film of the same name that inspired it. This is rude because that’s Madonna’s entire reason for living and she isn’t even involved in this one!

Amazon announced the series back in 2018. In this one, Tom Hanks’ position is played by a beardless Nick Offerman, and the team, still called the Rockford Peaches, features series creator Abbi Jacobson, D’Arcy Carden, and Chanté Adams. TVLine doesn’t mention it but according to IMDB, OG Peach Rosie O’Donnell will appear in all 8-episodes as a character named Vi (for vagina or victory? Only time will tell).

The baseball-themed series, based on the beloved 1992 film, will premiere on Friday, Aug. 12, TVLine has learned, with all eight episodes available at once. Abbi Jacobson (Broad City) and D’Arcy Carden (The Good Place) lead an ensemble cast in a story about the women who formed their own professional baseball league while the nation’s men were fighting in World War II. “The show takes a deeper look at race and sexuality, following the journey of a whole new ensemble of characters as they carve their own paths towards the field, both in the league and outside of it,” per the official description.

Prime Video also released a new teaser for the series — which you can watch above — that teases some hard-hitting action as the Rockford Peaches take the field (Stevie Nicks’ “Edge of Seventeen” makes for a great soundtrack), Nick Offerman as the Peaches’ manager and the emergence of a talented Black pitcher played by Chanté Adams. And did we sense some romantic sparks between Jacobson’s Carson and Carden’s Greta?

Here’s the trailer. If they didn’t want us to cry, why would they let Nick walk around with a naked face like that? If I wanted to know what Nick’s upper lip situation was like, I’d have researched it myself when I was in a safe space.

OK, I can get behind girls playing baseball, girls fingering each other in the dug-out and 1940s white girls welcoming a Black girl onto their team with open arms, but I have to draw the line at girls drinking beer. Come on! I know ALOTO probably had to play loose and fast with a few historical facts but girls drinking BEER? Not in my America, they don’t.
