Open Post: Hosted By A Surprise Proposal That Was Shut Down By A Disney Employee

Disney theme parks are well-known for being places where whimsy abounds, smiles greet you at every turn, and dreams really do come true. That is unless your dream is to propose to your hopeful fiancée. Then it’s a big “HELL NO!” from the Mouse! You gotta pay for that shit! A video from Disneyland Paris is making rounds after a couple attempted and failed a proposal in front of the famous Sleeping Beauty castle. The moment the ring flashed onto the scene, a Disney crew member came up and SNATCHED it right out of the box. I guess the couple did get a magical moment because that Disney employee made that ring disappear!

The Happiest Place on Earth became the Bafflingest Place on Earth (I tried, ok?) after this proposal was rudely interrupted. The video shows a man drop to one knee in front of his pleasantly surprised girlfriend when suddenly a purple blur jumps in to put a stop to such a display of happiness! via Newsweek:

A Disney spokesperson told Newsweek that the attempted proposal took place at Disneyland Paris, on a platform with the background of Sleeping Beauty Castle in perfect view.

But as the 21-second video begins, the man drops to one knee holding the ring with which he is about to propose to his significant other when a male employee scurries into the scene, darts between the two—the man still kneeling—and grabs the ring box out of his hand.

Onlookers seem confused by the scene, some even booing the employee who interrupted the couple’s happy moment. The male partner donned in all white clothing can be heard uttering something along the lines of: “She said yes,” pointing to a potential employee out of frame.

“Yes, that’s great but over here will be even better,” the employee said, leading the couple off the elevated platform and near a metal gate.

More boos rained upon the employee.

Here’s a look at a moment that will live in Disney infamy:

The video was originally posted on Reddit by the man’s friend. According to the post, the proposer asked another Disney worker if proposing at that location was ok. After getting the go ahead, he thought he was all clear to surprise his girlfriend. Sadly, it ended in tragedy. His now-fiancée said yes but there’s nothing worse than getting your ring stolen by a grown man in a mouse hat. A Disney spokesperson has apologized to the couple and offered to “make it right.” It’s not clear why the guy did what he did or whether he’ll be disciplined. It doesn’t look great for him because Disney has some STRICT rules when it comes to dealing with guests.

One Redditor alleged that he knows an employee who works for Disney, who told him that company employees are “explicitly told that we never touch a guest without their clear permission, given either verbally or through body language. We’re not allowed to take their property under any circumstances and doing so results in termination.”

A Disney employee handbook found online from 2016 specifies that employees will face discipline or even immediate termination if “conduct toward the employee’s managers, co-workers, or anyone with whom the employee comes in contact while performing work for the Company that is unprofessional, discourteous or disrespectful.”

Some are saying that it was brave of this guy to propose publicly and be taken down so embarrassingly. Personally, I think it was braver of him to wear white jeans in a place full of school-aged children. He was one ketchupped hot dog away from an even bigger disaster!
