Open Post: Hosted By The Return Of 90s Fashion Featuring Winona Ryder For Marc Jacobs

Don your chicest babydoll dress and strap on those Doc Martens because the 90s are back, bayyybeee! Ok, so 90s fashion has been in for a while and 2000s trends (ugh) are making their way onto the red carpet. But you can’t truly have a 90s comeback without Gen X poster child, Winona Ryder. Winona slapped her finest dark eyeliner to team up with Marc Jacobs and show off some new shoulder bags.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen heavy eyeliner, choppy hair, and a dark lip on a model. But Winona shows us that she hasn’t forgotten how to look like the 90s-iest indie IT girl this side of Seattle. Thanks to Stranger Things, Winona has had a bit of a comeback and somewhat become a beloved figure again. It also doesn’t hurt that she’s one of the world’s best emoters out there! (Whether or not she’s a great judge of character is different story.) The Marc Jacobs campaign has launched just in time for the release of Stranger Things season 4, which is peak Winona time. Here’s some background on the collaboration from People:

The campaign serves as the official launch of Marc Jacobs’ new purse, the J Marc shoulder bag, which is available Wednesday and comes in a variety of colors –– including blue, magenta, orange, and green as well as black and white, and tan. Ryder wore the bag as a clutch, a crossbody purse, and a shoulder bag in each of the photos.

“My Winona ❤️,” designer Marc Jacobs commented on an Instagram video of Ryder’s photoshoot.

Emma Wyman is credited as the stylist for the look for the campaign, which comes nearly 20 years after Ryder’s first collaboration with the fashion brand. She previously served as the face of the label’s Spring 2003 campaign. Ryder also became an ambassador for Jacobs’ beauty brand in 2015.

If someone told me that this was from 1995, I wouldn’t exactly bat an eye. Soon we’ll be seeing kids rocking satin slip dresses while listening to Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush (it was cool to be retro in the 90s, too!). Time is a flat circle, after all!

The most amazing part of this photoshoot is that Winona at age 50 can hold that pose. Yes, we all make jokes about our bodies falling apart after 25, but some of us can’t crouch without making an old man noise and collapsing. This campaign is aspirational to me for very different reasons. I don’t want to look like Winona. I want Winona’s knees!
