Open Post: Hosted By The Platinum Jubilee Corgi-Cam

Not everything surrounding THE QUEEN’s Jubilee costs millions of pounds and is reserved for the titled and tiaraed set. There are plenty of ways for plebes to get involved in the festivities, from standing around in a crowd hoping to catch a glimpse of Kim Kardashian standing around in a crowd around hoping to get a glimpse of The Royals (look, she’s no Tom Cruise), to standing around waiting for Trooping the Colours to end so you can rush in to collect any loose gems or teeth that may have been dropped from The Royal balcony. And if standing around isn’t your thing, there are still plenty of opportunities to pay tribute to The Queen, but you’re gonna miss out on the crowd favorite, the Corgi-Cam, a popup attraction in London’s Leadenhall Market where folks waited in line for several hours to have their picture taken with a corgi, The Queen’s favorite pup.

Yahoo! reports that the free event allows visitors to “take pictures with a rotating team of dogs while dressing up in faux ermine robes, crowns and tiaras.” Even though The Queen made corgis world-famous, they are apparently a rare breed in Great Britain and many folks have never met one in real life.

The 96-year-old queen has kept Pembroke Welsh Corgis since she was 18, and even appeared with her dogs in a spoof James Bond clip filmed for the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics.

The free Corgi Cam event outstripped expectations, with some waiting for several hours to attend, says organiser Katie Raby.

“Everyone associates the dog with her majesty and we wanted to be able to celebrate that,” she says.

The breed experienced a rush of interest recently due to the Netflix series “The Crown”, but still remains quite rare in the United Kingdom.

“Many people have never actually met a corgi,” Raby says. “There aren’t many around these days.”

You mean to tell me that people of Great Britain have to support the Royal Family with their taxes, it rains all the time and there is NOT a steady stream of adorable little fluffy corgi butts bopping up and down every street? And people still live there? OK. At least the Corgi Cam is free and standing in line to meet some of the country’s very best boys and girls beats standing in line trying to catch a glimpse of those hairless balcony freaks any day!
