Today “In Here We Go Again” News: “Obi-Wan Kenobi” Star Moses Ingram Spoke Up About Receiving Racist Messages From Fans On Social Media

Baby Yoda, perhaps the only universally beloved character in the Star Wars universe, is played by a green puppet with a hand rammed up his ass. Yet, according to Deadline, Moses Ingram, the actor who plays Sith Inquisitor Reva Sevander on the new Star Wars show on Disney+, Obi-Wan Kenobi, has been on the receiving end of a slew of vicious attacks on social media. And I don’t think I need to tell you she’s not a wrinkled-up little Benjamin Button-looking motherfucker who can’t even open his eyes without somebody tweaking his nipple from the inside. Rather, Moses is a fully autonomous Black woman capable of a full range of emotion and movement. Slap a costume on her and she’s good to go, no batteries required. But since a shameful number of Star Wars fans are racist as hell, Moses went on Instagram live to let people know what kind of hateful messages she’s been receiving since the first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi were released.

Obi-Wan Kenobi stars Ewan MacGregor, who is also an executive producer, reprising his role as the guy in the robe who vaporized when he got lightsabered in one of the old Star Wars movies, only younger. IndieWire reports that based on how previous non-white Star Wars stars Kelly Marie Tran and John Boyega were treated by fans (and in John’s case, by Disney itself), they warned Moses and Obi-Wan director Deborah Chow that the same racist vitriol was “likely” to happen to them as well. And boy were they right. Deadline reports:

Moses Ingram, who plays the villainous Sith Inquisitor Reva Sevander on the new Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi, revealed in her Instagram Stories yesterday that she has been subject to a deluge of racist messages on the platform since the show premiered last week.

“There’s nothing anybody can do about this,” Ingram said after revealing the messages, some of which contained the N-word. “There’s nothing anybody can do to stop this hate. I question my purpose in even being here in front of you saying that this is happening. I don’t really know.”

She continued, “The thing that bothers me is this feeling inside of myself, that no one has told me, but this feeling that I have to shut up and take it, that I have to grin and bear it. And I’m not built like that. So, I wanted to come on and say thank you to the people who show up for me in the comments and the places that I’m not going to put myself. And to the rest of y’all, y’all weird.”

Jesus, just wait until those weirdos find out Siths are all canonically gender-fluid, they’re really going to flip their wigs. Here’s Moses’ message.

Naturally, since it’s racism we’re talking about today and not that other thing (shh, don’t say G-A-Y!), Disney has come out forcefully in support of Moses. For whatever it’s worth.

Yaaas! Virulent racists love a sassy callback and a tag line almost as much as they love overt racism being couched as “making someone feel in any way unwelcome!” But when that forceful Tweet didn’t make all the racist trolls repent and convert to sparkly Timberlake Trolls, they sent Daddy-Wan Kenobi out to give them a stern talking to.

I mean, that’s great and all but there’s only one Star Wars star that these racist pieces of shit are going to listen to and it’s not Ewan. Somebody needs to pull that puppet out of cold storage and have him record a message of support. Help us Baby Yoda, you’re our only hope.
