Fyre Festival Organizer Billy McFarland Has Been Released From Prison Early

Back in 2017, Billy McFarland (with the help of Ja Rule, and numerous models) created one of the greatest grifts of the 21st Centrury, the Fyre Festival. The luxury music festival that duped people out of tons of money to watch Ja Rule perform on an island, but instead found themselves trapped on an island with next to zero accommodations, no Ja Rule, and nothing more than a take-away plate of food that looks like it was brought in from the nearest hospital cafeteria. Billy eventually got arrested on fraud charges and was subsequently sentenced to six years in prison. All of us probably figured that Billy’s sentence would stick, and he’d be chowing down on some Fyre Festival-ish cold processed cheese sandwiches in the big house for six whole years. But as it turns out, Billy was just released from prison, that six-year sentence be damned.

Billy was sentenced back in October 2018, so a reasonable person would expect Billy’s bunk to stay warm until at least October 2024. That’s not happening.TMZ says that Billy was released from prison on March 30, but he was transferred to something called community confinement. That could mean he’s at a halfway house, or even at someone’s home (like his own).

An early release is pretty much what Billy was wishing on a star for since his ass was tossed in prison back in 2018. In April 2020, Billy’s lawyers notified the courts that Billy would like to be released early from prison, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Billy’s lawyers tried to argue that their client had a poor, helpless set of lungs on him and that being on the wrong end of the “extreme scale” of people with allergies could put him in a bad place, should he catch COVID. That didn’t work, and Billy was stuck in prison until March of this year, apparently. His release came just under a year after the class-action lawsuit against the Fyre Festival was settled for just $2 million.

But it might be a clue as to where Billy is currently. When his lawyers begged for Billy to be released early two years ago, they claimed that Billy’s family would be glad to keep him confined in their home. So maybe Billy is back with his mom and dad. I wonder if Billy will get together on the outside with his prison buddy, The Situation? Yeah, that number has definitely been blocked.

TMZ adds that Billy is required to stay in “community confinement” until the end of August. As for what happens at the end of August, it sounds like Billy could possibly be done serving his time. And what a time to be released too. Billy’s skill set involves using celebrity endorsement to scam gullible rich people out of money in exchange for something that doesn’t exist. And that’s never been easier than with celebrity-backed NFTs! Who says lightning can’t strike twice? Good luck with your future defrauding, Billy!
