Taylor Swift Gave The Commencement Speech At NYU And Received An Honorary Doctorate

Don’t call her Tay Tay. It’s DOCTOR Tay Tay from now on, thankyouverymuch. According to Billboard, New York University has awarded Taylor Swift with an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree, presumably for her groundbreaking papers titled Haters Gonna Hate: A Compendium of Clap Backs and Complaints and Cottage to the Core: Vintage Rural Aesthetics for Modern Suburban Girls. Taylor, who never attended college, also gave the commencement speech at today’s ceremony at Yankee Stadium celebrating the graduating classes of 2020, 2021, and 2022.

Now I can’t verify this or anything, but I heard that instead of the usual Doctorate regalia they put around your neck, the Dean pulled out the scarf Jake Gyllenhaal allegedly stole and tried to strangle her with it. Do you know how sick the Dean at NYU must be of hearing about that fucking scarf already?! Here’s a little video Taylor made of her getting ready for the ceremony.

She does know it’s not real right? Well, at least she doesn’t have to worry about Kanye West trying to snatch this one away from her. Billboard reports:

Swift will receive a Doctor of Fine Arts, honoris causa, and speak at NYU’s morning commencement event this morning at Yankee Stadium. The degree will be her first, since the former teen star was scoring hits and headlining tours by the time she graduated high school and did not attend college. The NYU commencement will honor the classes of 2020, 2021 and 2022 following the pandemic lay-off of large gatherings. Disability rights advocate Judith Heumann will also receive an honorary degree and address graduates.

Great but THIS JUST IN!

I’m guessing the Dean must have called in a favor with the Gyllenhaals. Hopefully, we can now put the matter of the missing scarf to bed once and for all. As for Taylor’s speech, she kept it just as light and vague as her albums. NBC News reports:

During her speech, Swift offered some advice to the graduating class of 2022, what she described as “life hacks.”

She advised the graduates to only carry the things in life you need.

“You get to pick what your life has time and room for. Be discerning,’ she said.

Next, she suggested that people learn to live with “cringe.”

“No matter how hard you try to avoid being cringe, you will look back on your life and cringe, retrospectively … even the term cringe might some day be deemed, ‘cringe,'” she said.

The best part of Dr. Tay Tay’s life hacks is they come pre-mounted on motivational posters and memes.

Up next, an honorary Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine for her groundbreaking work in the field of feline psychology with her seminal paper Cats Buttholes: Windows to Their Souls — Taylor’s Version.

And here’s Taylor’s full speech, which starts at the 2:51:19 mark:
