The Internet Has Mixed Feelings on Britney Spears’ Naked Selfies

May 10, 2022 / Posted by:

One of the first things Britney Spears did after emerging from her nearly 13-year-long conservatorship was make up for lost time and celebrated by putting her body on Instagram, as many thirst trappers have done before. Britney’s online activity used to be heavily monitored and controlled, and getting naked for the ‘gram wasn’t exactly something that would get the approval from those in charge, like her dad Jamie Spears. Now that Britney is free to scream and shout and let it all out, she can work (bitch) that body as much as she wants. Lately, she’s been at it again, posting naked selfies with just a few strategically-placed emojis to keep her if-you-seek-Amy bits from getting flagged. Some people on the internet aren’t feeling Britney feeling herself, and they’ve voiced their concern. On the other side of the debate are people who aren’t concerned that Britney’s behavior is anything more than just an adult woman doing what she wants.

Britney’s fiancé Sam Asghari recently made headlines when he revealed on Instagram that he and Britney had finalized a date for their wedding. Britney didn’t have anything to add to that. Instead, she hopped on Instagram and showed everyone what she probably won’t be wearing when she twirls down the aisle on that special day. Britney posted several pictures of herself in full hands-as-a-bra glory, explaining that she decided to dump some old vacation photos from before she became pregnant with her third child.

TMZ reports that after Britney dumped her body pics on Instagram (there were two additional posts featuring…well, pretty much the exact same pictures), some of her fans began to express concern for her social media choices. via TMZ:

The posts were met with criticism from a number of Spears’ followers, with one alluding to her recently dissolved conservatorship as they wrote: “Starting to think those who were in control perhaps should have stayed in control.”

Others were alarmed, by the insinuations – “Anyone else here legitimately concerned?”

As for Britney, she’s said in the past the nude pics represent her as a free woman and a rebel.

Of course, comments like those are made all the more problematic, considering Britney spent nearly 13 years surrounded by the narrative that she was “crazy” enough to require legal guardians to watch and control her every move. Many have pointed out that the concern around Britney’s nakedness feels a little judgemental, especially since she’s a grown woman doing what she wants on social media. Or doing what other grown women want to be doing when it comes to the removal of undies and the click of a camera lens. Like, this Twitter user who dared to ask why Kim Kardashian’s inbox doesn’t get filled up with people asking where is Kris and why isn’t she wearing any clothes. I mean, listen – many of us want Kim to kover up, but not for the same reason Britney’s concern trolls want her to do the same.

One argument against the Kim vs. Britney argument is that Kim only did that photoshoot once, while Britney keeps posting naked photos online. But this isn’t new news! Britney has been body positive since way back. And, like Kim, she knows her way around a professional topless-ish photo shoot.

And then there are the people who are quick to point out that Britney is far from the only person posting with their tits partially out on Instagram, but that she seems to be the only one on the receiving end of concerned messages. Britney hasn’t said anything about the uproar around her Instagram nudes. That could be because when Britney wants to get something off her chest, it’s usually presented in 4 to 6 pages of emoji-filled Notes App writing. So, she could be responding to this, it’s just taking her a while. But the whole thing about not being under a conservatorship anymore means that people are free to make their own decisions! And if Britney wants to pop that emoji-covered coochie all over social media, that’s her choice. Although I will be the first in line to jump into her comments asking “Are you okay right now?” if Britney ever switches from semi-naked shots to posts about how much she loves buying NFTs.
