Priyanka Chopra And Nick Jonas Shared The First Photo Of Their Daughter After She Spent Over 100 Days In The NICU

Back in January, Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas welcomed their first baby via surrogate. Last month they revealed their daughter’s name: Malti Marie Chopra Jonas. Malti is a Sanskrit name that means small, fragrant flower or moonlight. Yesterday, in honor of Mother’s Day, the couple shared the first public picture of their child. Well, sort of. Malti’s little face is strategically covered with a white heart emoji. In the caption, 39-year-old Priyanka and 29-year-old Nick wrote about their “rollercoaster” last few months. Apparently, little Malti had to spend more than 100 days in the newborn intensive care unit! Scary. Luckily, baby Chopra Jonas finally got out of the hospital and is happy at home with her mom and dad.

Here’s Priyanka’s post on Instagram. She and Nick wrote essentially the same caption (except for the final couple paragraphs; those are tailored to complement one another), sharing that they are “overjoyed” to finally welcome their daughter home. They admit that while Malti’s long hospital stay made for “a challenging few months,” it became clear “how precious and perfect every moment is.” The new parents go on to thank the doctors, nurses, and specialists at Rady Children’s Hospital and Cedar Sinai, “who were there selflessly every step of the way.” They add that their next chapter begins now, and “our baby is truly a badass”:

On his version of the post, Nick adds that he is inspired by his “incredible wife” Priyanka, who is “taking to this new role with such ease and steadiness”:

No word on why Malti had to spend such a long time in the NICU. Back in March, a source told Entertainment Tonight that Priyanka and Nick were spending lots of time at their home:

“Priyanka and Nick love being new parents and have been spending a lot of downtime at home,” the source says. “The two have wanted children for a while and so happy it finally happened. Priyanka and Nick are private but have let close friends and family meet their baby.”

So was “downtime at home” code for “hanging out at the hospital”? Or was this a red herring leak? Or a completely bullshit source? I’m going to call up Entertainment Tonight and feed them some phony gossip to test their journalistic standards. I’ll exclusively reveal that the heart emoji in that Instagram pic is actually covering up the fact that baby Malti is the spitting image of Nick’s brother, JOE Jonas (GASP)! My bullshitter nom de plume? Rose E.O. Donnell.
