Kim Kardashian’s Marilyn Monroe Moment At The Met Gala Has Been Denounced By Historians And Experts

As soon as I saw Kim Kardashian at the Met Gala stuffed into the Original Freakum Dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in 1962, I knew Kim’s horde of remedial fashion zombies would cream their jeans with giddy delight. However, not everyone is ready to crown Kim the new Queen of Glamour and Glitter because Marilyn enthusiasts believe she had no business wearing such an important piece of American history in the first place. And although hers was probably the most normal-looking frock during an evening of NOT understanding the assignment, it appears she only wore the original long enough for pictures, then quickly slipped into a reproduction of the gown moments later.

Looking at Kim, my initial thought was “Who the hell let Amber Rose into the Met Gala?”. However, Amber would have been the better option. And even though Kim has finally secured her place in Hell by desecrating the legacy of Marilyn’s dress, what some may not know is Kim only wore it for a few minutes before slipping into a replica for the remainder of the night. According to Cosmopolitan, even though Kim is klueless, she also realized how important it was to handle Marilyn’s dress with care.

Kim left her hotel in a dressing gown with barricades set up, hopped into a fitting room by the Met Gala steps that was made just for her, and was helped into her dress by a conservationist.

“I’m extremely respectful to the dress and what it means to American history. I would never want to sit in it or eat in it or have any risk of any damage to it, and I won’t be wearing the kind of body makeup I usually do,” she said. “Everything had to be specifically timed and I had to practice walking up the stairs.”

Whatever Kim. You could have easily just worn the damn replica and saved us all the drama, which is the consensus for many Marilyn historians who believe Kim should have been locked up by the Fashion Police on the red carpet for committing this blasphemy. People reports that professor of fashion history at FIT Dr. Justine De Young scolded Kim for wearing the dress calling it “irresponsible and unnecessary”, which are more like words of affirmation in Kim’s world.

“She can –– and did –– commission a replica which would be indistinguishable from the original. Such an iconic piece of American history should not be put at risk of damage just for an ego-boost and photo-op,”

Dr. De Young also disagreed with Kim’s three-week diet to fit into the dress because it promotes unhealthy beauty standards. But promoting unhealthy beauty standards is part of the Kardashian Bible so try again, doc.  Also, another Monroe historian, Scott Fortner, chimed in by saying Kim should have kept her big ass out of Marilyn’s dress because it wasn’t made for her measurements and, let’s not forget, the dress is almost sixty years old.

“While I understand the appeal of wanting to wear such an iconic gown, it can’t be dismissed or overlooked that anyone other than Marilyn Monroe wearing the famous ‘Happy Birthday Mr. President’ dress might be cause for concern for several reasons…The gown worn by anyone else will not be a precise fit. In this case, Kim Kardashian’s measurements are somewhat different than Marilyn’s. It’s logically assumed the fabric and seams were stressed.”

But Nick Woodhouse, the president of the company that runs Marilyn Monroe’s estate, tells TMZ that he believes Marilyn herself would’ve been happy about Kim wearing her dress.

The fact [the dress] was once again at the center of fashion and pop culture all these years later is pretty astonishing in ABG’s eyes — and they tell us they think the late Monroe likely would’ve felt the same way.

As for Kim being the one to don the dress again … Woodhouse says there’s no better person for it, as he sees a lot of similarities between Marilyn and Kim — namely, the fact they’re strong, powerful and independent entrepreneurs who love being in front of the camera.

Well okay, but one night with Kim Kardashian and the dress may start unraveling soon. Now we know what it must have been like for Kanye during their marriage because he’s been steadily unraveling even more ever since they said: “I do.
