Open Post: Hosted By Rihanna At The Met Gala In The Form Of A (Virtual) Statue

Rihanna is in the third trimester of her pregnancy, and you know what they say about the third trimester: no long plane rides, don’t get anywhere near cat litter, and NO going to the Met Gala. So, alas, Rihanna could not attend. But a Rihanna-less Met Gala is no way to Met Gala! Us Weekly says that organizers had no choice but to create a (virtual) marble Rihanna statue and debut it online in celebration of the event. Move over, David! There’s a new HBIC of the Statue World.

Vogue and Met Gala organizers collaborated on the video of the digital statue (yeah, it’s… not real), which was (virtually) placed in the museum’s antiquities wing. It was based on Rihanna’s May Vogue cover, where she wore a form-fitting Alaïa bodysuit that showed off her pregnant belly:

Here’s Vogue’s announcement, which throws some light shade to the statue of “Eirine (the personification of peace)”:

Rihanna took to Twitter to thank the Met and Vogue for “this historic tribute”:

I’m so confused. At first, I thought this statue was real and we could all go to the Met and worship at the foot of the Queen. But I guess it only exists in that one video. If I were Rihanna, I’d be pissed. How hot and famous and rich do you have to be to get an actual marble statue made in your likeness? Like, what’s so great about this Venus de Milo chick? It’s a damn shame. I have the best advice for sculptors in the 21st century: get your fucking ass up and work. It seems like nobody wants to spend two straight years chiseling a marble statue of Rihanna these days.
