Kirk Cameron Calls Public Schools “Enemy Number One” While Plugging His Documentary “Homeschool Awakening”

It’s rare to see someone work so hard to destroy their legacy with as much efficiency and speed as Kirk Cameron has. Just 11 years ago, Kirk had reached the pinnacle of his career when he starred in Office Birthday, a subversive work of absurdist art about a former teen-heartthrob whose religious fervor results in a surreal tableau that speaks to the isolation and futility of modern American enterprise. Since then, he’s given us nothing but shitty movie after shitty movie, punctuated by one shitty hot take after another. Kirk’s most recent shitty movie is a documentary called Homeschool Awakening, and his most recent shitty hot take is that America’s public school system has become “public enemy #1.” Kirk was on top of the world, now he’s just another asshole for whom education and empathy are dirty words. He really should have just sat there and eaten his footlongs.

Kirk introduced the trailer for his movie on YouTube and dramatically opined that “we need to take back the education of our children because whoever controls the textbooks controls the future,” telling us Homeschool Awakening is a dystopian thriller chronicling the birth of a totalitarian theocracy movement without actually telling us it’s a dystopian thriller chronicling the birth of a totalitarian theocracy movement. Here’s the trailer.

If Kirk has his way, we’ll be living in a country where the school curriculum includes subjects such as meteorology, human sexuality, virology, feminism, U.S. history, social justice, and world religions, but they’re all wrapped up in a single class called Debunking Facts. The rest of the school day is unsupervised free time. It’s not like they’re going to be getting into any trouble, they don’t have any friends! Meaww reports:

According to Cameron, one of the first goals of the film is to dispel the myth that homeschooling is terrible and that those who do it are rare and underdeveloped in comparison to those who attend a traditional school. The synopsis of the documentary reads, “Families across the nation are experiencing the homeschool awakening, taking advantage of the freedom and opportunities for self-discovery — with the world as their classroom. Join award-winning actor, Kirk Cameron, as he dives into the adventures of dynamic American families on a mission to put fun and faith back into learning. The Homeschool Awakening explores the ins, outs, and honest answers to homeschooling’s most frequently asked questions.”

I’m pretty sure homeschooling’s most frequently asked questions are “Sweet Jesus, what have we gotten ourselves into?” and “Is it too late to get Mordecai registered?” But those aren’t addressed in the documentary. Meaww adds:

Cameron has stated that the public school system does not work with the people, but rather against them, and that the public school system is America’s number one enemy in his perspective. The actor advises seizing control of education because whoever controls the textbooks has influence over the future. The documentary will only be shown in theaters on June 13 and 14.

Dude seriously needs to worry more about who is in control of the Spice. Because of the way he wants to go about it, the future will be full of grown adults who truly believe their grandparents used to run around with exclusively heterosexual pet dinosaurs. It’s that’s the future he wants, the universe is going to be going through Spice like there’s no tomorrow.
