Chris Rock Has Reportedly Started Wearing Headphones So He Can Avoid Hearing People Ask About Getting Slapped At The Oscars

Are you sick of talking about The Slap yet? Chris Rock sure is. It’s been exactly one month since Will Smith decided to defend his wife’s honor by stepping on stage at the 2022 Academy Awards and guaranteeing himself a decade-long ban from the Oscars by slapping Chris Rock in the face after Chris made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s bald head. Everyone continues to weigh in on the situation with their thoughts, including Chris Rock’s own mother (naturally, she’s Team Chris). And since Chris can’t avoid the conversation that just won’t die, he has allegedly decided the best plan of action is to drown it all out by wearing headphones whenever he goes out in public. I guess buying a megaphone and screaming, “Will you shut the fuck up about the slap, PLEASE” every time he leaves his house felt like overkill.

Chris Rock is currently on a stand-up comedy tour, and he’s said that he’s not going to talk about it unless there’s a big fat check on the other side of said conversation. So while his mouth is off-limits, apparently so are his ears for the time being. Sources recently spoke to Page Six, and they claim that Chris can be seen around his SoHo neighborhood in New York, wearing headphones in an attempt to silence any possible questions about that thing with Will Smith.

Sources say that Rock has been wearing headphones around his SoHo neighborhood…because he’s hoping it dissuades the public from talking to him about the world’s most famous temper tantrum.

Rock is discovering that people are quite keen to share their opinions about the matter. “It looks like he’s listening to music,” laughed an insider, “but it’s just so that nobody approaches him.”

Of course, there is a chance that Chris Rock is actually listening to music when he puts on his headphones and heads out the door. And, if this recent tweet means anything, then it’s entirely possible that Chris Rock is wearing those headphones everywhere.

Those headphones appear to be noise-canceling headphones by Bose. A very smart choice by Chris Rock. Because the only thing that would draw more negative attention to this ongoing slap situation would be if he was strolling around wearing a pair of Beats. But those headphones can’t cancel all noise, and I’m sure someone has tried tapping Chris on the shoulder, miming a hand gesture that says, “Take off your headphones for a second?“, then fully annoying Chris with a game of 20 Questions: Will Smith’s Fist Edition. To which Chris would probably respond with a single question: Is Will Smith still getting hassled like this all the way over in India, because I think I’d like to book a one-way ticket.
